We have had for long period Standalone SuperContainer server running on OS X but we need to move it to Windows Server 2019 Standard Edition. We love the previews that the MacOS do construct for each PDF as it is well stated. The question is to ask i there Is any way to circumvent the windows limitation and get those same previews with the same tools, or something that involves BaseElements. Thanks in advance.

Well it is the classic strange issue that comes to me. A company set up a server in a NUC5i5RYH with Win10 and said it was good enough for FMServer 15… and it was not supported. I can see the tech reasons in favor of the server-grade Windows OS. I will try a search in order to see if the difficulties are beatable. Thanks, folks !!

The FM specifications state that (On Windows platform), the Windows 10 OS is nos apparently supported. Any experiences about installing FMServer 15 or 16 under Windows 10? Thanks in advance, Jorge

I am trying to take a decision in an area with no experience at all. Thermal printing driven by FM14. After a few searching I have two printers I would recommend for a customer: - Brother TD 4100N -Epson TM T88V (with an Ethernet interface needed) The question is: Is Filemaker able to print in this devices. The tech specifications do not precisely explain any printing language (PCL, Postscript or whatever) and I need to know if any or both devices have been used with Filemaker sending data. The main issue is to print a logo and data of an appointment to give to the persons that ask for attendance. Any experiences with these devices? Or any key point to be taken into account before buying this kind of printers ? Always bear in mind the "FMaker-ization" Thanks in advance !!

Yap! Firefox is out of the issue, sorry! The v13 scripts reference manual stands (p. 253) that Open URL is a supported step for WebDirect. The description is rich enough to state this: Windows: Open URL supports http, https, ldap, ldaps, ftp, file, and mailto URL types. For example, if the URL starts with http, FileMaker Pro opens the user's web browser and processes the URL. Note FileMaker Pro uses the preferences stored in the Windows system file URL.DLL to determine the application to handle the URL. The URL is then passed to ShellExecute for execution. And as we have experienced it works flawlessly with FMPro but in the supposedly supported (oops!) web direct doesn't. Perhaps any change after manual writing? In my tray: I have to try it with mac (just to see the issue) although the system is only Win. We have a development that if accessed by regular Filemaker Pro the button (via Open URL) that links to a document (word file) it does open the application (MS word) resulting a very satisfactory behaviour for users. But the same stuff when running with WebDirect the Chrome gets an "not capable of opening the window; please deactivate the popup window blocker and try again". Well needless to say that that blocker is not active (under preferencies) and the IS manager of the net also verifies it is not blocked at her level. Also firefox, same machine, is not able to open the application; in this case with no alarm / action at all. Any clues?? Thanks!! It simply can bring us to a couple of interesting CFs… The other collateral point for us is related to see which kind of combinations usually get with no big prix and go to a "pot" (I don't know if this is the term). Other ones are quite popular and do share the big one amongst 3 or even more people. Needless to say that this doesn't reveal the next winner combo but as soon as you see what it can be said if it would be in the popular bets or not. I do not see your point. I can not guess why frequency as commented would be more analyzable in the number level cause it is the combination at the drawing level what we try to see. You've solved it, you deserve a clean answer I was trying, just for fun(*), with a friend of mine(**) to solve this issue: how many times this combination 15, 18, 30, 39, 45, 46 (+41) has appeared before in the lotto (I think there is such a lottery in most countries). Well not exactly that combination (just once, of course) but its "essence", that is, 5 value combination of any of those numbers. We have the 7 numbers of each raffle (¿¿??) in 7 fields and we wanted to know many combinations of 5 have been appeared before. The combination stuff is solved with CF AllWordCombinations but gives us a 127 value list. Cause we were not able to extract only the fixed word length, we started to think how to extract the data with, lets say 5 value combination from the list as issued. We also have not been able to devise a better data estructure that this of combine each individual number, ordered, just to obtain ordered keys to get compared with hundreds of other combinations. So we will have a multikey relationship that will answer the how many times 5 combinations to this raffle [15, 18, 30, 39, 41, 45, 46] has appeared before in the lotto. Hi LaRetta, no you haven´t But the data shown is only a small set of "free text" that after 37 thousand records -18 thousand with data in this field- it is a bit more complicated that your precise calc. I have all sort of not numeric data inside the field. My approach should be how to filter the numbers but not loosing the value or the word to be understood. I also have some text data (a few hundred good ones) with "backside", "lower", "bis", "prox", that I will try to save after cleaning numbers. The point as you'll guess is to construct a normalized data field, leaving the old one the calc should, I guess: - replace not numeric data with spaces - trim - replace the last spaces with ¶ If I am misfocused please comment me. I obtain from and old database field, called "num" where the users put the street number or gate number, these 13 values from the index(: 12 13 14 14 16 14 Y 16 14-16 14-16-18 14,16,18 14y16 15 16 17 17y20 and in order to obtain a clean relationship data I have to transform in 12 13 14 14¶16 14¶16 14¶16 14¶16¶18 14¶16¶18 14¶16 15 16 17 17¶20 As you may imagine I need this kind of data in the child side of the relationship just to see #14 related issues in one instance and not in 6 different cases. When I setup via relationship a valuelist of a date field I logically obtain a (text) list of dates. But I need to use it to control a relationship with a date field and the stuff only works when text valuelist and date field are equally formatted. I use the european date format, sorry V.list 6/1/2012 7/1/2012 8/1/2012 13/1/2012 can not be relationated to the date field 06/01/2012 or can not be found in the vList via PatternCount. Well, it does work when the date is from october / nov / dec on 10th to 31th But useless, of course. The issue is solved with relationship multipredicate but I have to set up (it is a week control screen) 7 times the seven dates, instead a easy one. Do I miss something basic or easier? Hi, We have had a problem in setting up our supercontainer shared volume. The supercontainer does not allow to work (error 500) on a shared volume in its domain. We can of course write and delete with no problem form the Win Explorer, from desktop. We have try to set up the current system: Filemaker Server and SuperContainer both on the same server: - Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition (32-bit) SP2 - FM Server 11.0.2.217 - Java 6.29 - SuperContainer version 2.792 Then in the preferences xml file, the WindowsFilesPath is configured to store the files in a net volume (\\host\sharedfolder). To allow it in volume's host computer we have set up the folder permissions are in Total Control for All. Just to prove that the setup works, from a XP SP3 (32-bit) client running Internet Explorer 8 y Java 6.29 we can flawlessly drop any file. SuperContainer does not work with such configuration to save files in that net volume. The error provided is a 500 which seems to be a permissions problem. I a missing something there cause I do not know if permissions is related to the shared volume or to the filemaker server/ supercontainer machine. Thanks in advance.

Just to close the issue. We observed that the Printing's Systems settings where nor behaving properly cause the default printer did not remain stored when selected. The point was a macos issue as others commented. Proper google searching focused in this Default printer issue drove us to https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2269063?start=0&tstart=0 where you can find how to change the owner / username of the cups directory. Needless to say that after configure it all the printing issues in Filemaker vanished. HTH.

I have also noticed that the 3 button control of the mac window (in the "filemaker is unable to continue printing" iMac, of course) remain dark grey instead their usual red, yellow, green appearance. Unrelated maybe?

Thanks for the suggestions, Vaughan. I will try the preference issue that i have not used on the post FM6 versions, to tell you the truth. The point in this case seems to be a broad issue rather than a single machine configuration. Although, as you point, usual regular and careful soft updating usually solves the issue. More data: Another i3 iMac with same MacOS was printing the record list... surprise!! :-) The server side: Database (is only 1 file) is shared in a xServe 10.6, under FMServer 11. What does it print The stuff to be printed is a list of work orders. When you open the stuff you see a portal with work orders you can play with some controls in order to see your orders, one customer orders, by status... and you should be able to print that portal. The client that has the first issue Machine profile: iMac i3 - 3,06 Ghz - 10.6.6 FMaker 11.0.4 Three printers installed in the OS I also got the same issue with other mac.
