July 11, 200223 yr Hi Can anyone help me out with a precedure for configuring OSX so that i can publish and test my db without being online. I can do this in OS9 but OSX seems to be more difficult. Thanks in advance
July 12, 200223 yr Author Gary, I'm sort of new to this so forgive my ignorance! I'm using OSX10.1 and still having problems. Basically I confirgure the OS TCP panel to what is described in the Help guides. I can get Web Companion up and running. But when I attempt to view the default Filmaker page in IE I get nothing - zilch. I think my problem maybe with one of 2 things.. 1. My TCP configuration may be incorrect? I've read that OSX has a whole lot of Port things happening! This is beyond me! 2. I've copied my existing Web folder from a Filemaker 5 directory to the current Filemaker 5.5 folder. May be the default Filemaker page has been updated? Any comments or suggestions? Thanks in advance Chris
July 12, 200223 yr Chris, The current version of OS X has problems if you are not connected to a network and try to check your work with "localhost" (or the IP address). Otherwise it works fine. Are you having problems connecting from another computer? All the best. Garry
July 15, 200223 yr Yes -- it is weird. On my iMac, always on a local network, no problem testing. On my iBook, no problem when it is plugged in to same. But, if I disconnect the iBook, no matter what I do with FMP, with OSX settings, whatever... I always get the same result: In a error dialog box "The attempt to load 'Accessing URL: http://localhost/' failed." This started with 10.1.3 and continues through 10.1.5. I had no problems under 10.1 or 10.1.2. If anyone finds the solution, please post!
July 17, 200223 yr Author All, Sounds like this is a common issue :-( I wonder if this has been rectified in FM6? Chris
July 17, 200223 yr Do you have an airport card in your iBook? If you do, you can do offline testing by creating your own local Airport network. Pull down 'Create network...' from the airport icon in the manu bar, or by using Internet Connect.app. Set Airport to configure manually, and put in any fake settings in your your IP address and subnet mask. Caution - if you are on an airplane, PLEASE be sure to put your laptop to sleep during takeoff and landing if you have this offline configuration! Airport can interfere with navigational radio signals.
July 19, 200223 yr Try going to http://127.0.0.1 This is an internal "loop back" address on ANY machine and is independent of the OS you are using. EasyEdE (with help from my consultant AKA son.)
