Newbies gary2942 Posted July 28, 2002 Newbies Posted July 28, 2002 I have an application that contains 6 files. All 6 files are opened with one file's opening script. Each file is password protected (they all share the same password). I have a "master" password for designing the files and the operators have a password that restricts their access. To make it easier for my operators, I need a script that eliminates the need for the Operators to enter a password for each file as it opens. I'd like them to only be required to enter their password one time. Any ideas? PS I'm not sure how this site works, so I also listed this question under the Security topic.
kenneth2k1 Posted July 29, 2002 Posted July 29, 2002 The way I usually set up my passwords is to have each file try the default user password. You can set this up by going to Edit/Preferences/Document. Then, when an admin wants to log in, hold the Shift key down which will prompt for a password. I don't think this will be helpful if the users are allowed to change their passwords, or their passwords are all different. Ken
danjacoby Posted July 29, 2002 Posted July 29, 2002 The shift key is for Windows; use the option key on Macs.
LiveOak Posted July 29, 2002 Posted July 29, 2002 If the passwords are the same for all six files, the user opens "File 1", and File 1 has a startup script that opens the other five files, the user should only be prompted once for a password. -bd
IdealData Posted July 29, 2002 Posted July 29, 2002 FMP provides password "inheritance" provided the same password exists in the files. Make a new file say "StartUp", that will directly open the other files as part of its "Open script". Provided the password is correct in "StartUp", then each file will be opened with out the password dialog. This "inheritance" also applies when fields are related, value lists are used from another file or an external script is called.
