I am having a problem creating a mailing list. Can anyone tell me how to ensure that when entering a record that it is unique. I have set up a text field to be calculated. This is "Title & Sirname & address1 & Address2 etc" I have also set the options that this field should be unique. My problem is when I enter two records with the same details nothing happens???

Calc fields cannot be directly checked for uniqueness. However...

Create a self-relationship, based on the calc field. Next, create a calc field (call it "one") that returns the number 1. Finally, create a calc field that returns a warning if the sum of the related "one" field is greater than 1.

BTW (I have now put on my pedant hat), I presume "Sirname" (sic) is a typo.

There is a Filemaker TechInfo Article on validating calculation fields. Search for "validating calculation fields". I've used it and it works! Not for the feint of heart though...

Do you like it? I'd like to say that it's me in my party dress, but alas I found it on the web somewhere.

I laugh too, glad you enjoyed it!

FWIW,

I am pretty sure the picture is Emma Gene Coco (sp?).

She was a comediene from the 40-50 who appeared on Sid Cesars Show of Shows.

Emma Gene?!?!:??

What do they teach kids these days? I mean, really!

Imogene Coca was on Sid Caesar's "Your Show of Shows" for (I believe) two years, along with many plays. She died last year at the age of 92.

You've got to feel sorry the poor sucker who owns that "mug".

Did you pay any royalties ?

Posted

No, I haven't paid royalties... I cannot find the coyright holder to send them a cheque! As much as I like it I'm gonna take it off, it's not appropriate to use copyrighted material without permission.

OK, here's a good question... how does one clear an image without posting another?
