I purchased File Maker Pro 5 over a year ago and had no problems with it. The file was published using the Instant Web Publisher. However, there is the problem with only allowing 10 users on in a 12 hour period. So I purchased the File Maker Pro 5.5 Unlimited and have had problems with it ever since.

The File Maker Pro 5.5 Unlimited is installed on a Windows NT pc and the file is published on the web site using Instant Web Publisher (which had no problems with the previous version.)

I publish 2 files, one very small file and a larger property tax file with 56,000 records. The small file works just fine - but the larger file periodically disappears from the Instant Web Publishing page. I then have to close the file on the server and re-open the file. This usually occurs once a day.

The error log file displays the message 'HTTP session disconnected'. I have searched the forum for other people that have had the problem - but no one ever seems to solve it.

I have tried the following:

* Use the updater to update the File Maker Pro Unlimited

* Recreate the file from scratch - instead of using the file from the previous

version.

* Remove the File Maker Pro Software and then re-install it

* Change the memory in the file - from small to very large.

The file can be located at:

www.vercomis.org:591 (with a password of tax_inquiry)

I have tried to crash the file myself, but cannot seem to do it. I'd appreciate any help.

I tried your URL, but I think your machine was asleep (9.25 GMT +0100).

Realistically you should use Custome Web Publishing with FMPU, but I don't think this problem is in FM.

I did some tests and made FMP crash by using Netscape Navigator as a browser, but it was fine with Explorer. This was all with Macs.

Have you looked at the Windows NT side of this equation?? e.g. It may be some event on the NT side that is impacting the system's resources to the point where it shuts off the HTTP session.

check you have updated your web companion to 5.5v4 when you ran the app updater ...... the application updater may not do WC 5.5v4 it has a seperate d/l.

If this is only happening to one file i doubt it would be caused by a system i/o problem but rather the application or more likely that particular file.

Strip a copy of the database right down ... remove all relationships and images etc and run it along side ... see if the db's behave differently. If the stripped down version is more reliable put stuff back until it goes tits up, then you know where to start looking for a solution.
