david s Posted January 13, 2002 Posted January 13, 2002 Hello, i've set fmp unlimited on a w2k server with web companion on port 591 and wsc activated. I'm finding problems with some clients behind a firewall/proxy on port 591, they can't access db! I know the best solutions would be to set up 2 server with this confiuration: 1. w2k web server with wsc 2. win 2000 professional (or another OS) with fmp unlimited in this case the db would go on port 80 without prolems So... i have to use only one server... wich is the best port to use fmp? I've read somewhere 8080, but i think i could use port 25 or port 21 on my server if i don't use services like mail or ftp.. is this correct? In this case everyone could be able to access db because every firewall is open on ports 21 or 25. Thanks in advance and have a nice day!
david s Posted January 14, 2002 Author Posted January 14, 2002 thanks for your answer but i have only one machine so i can't use port 80. This is my configuration (may be i mistake configuration?!?!): iis5: port 80 web companion: port 591 wsc: localhost port 591 I was thinkin to use this configuration as alternative: iis5: port 80 web companion: port 21 or 25 or 8080 or what? wsc: localhost port 21 or 25 or 8080 or what? in this case a client maybe will be able to access dbs because i think ports 21 or 25 or 8080 could be more used than port 591. Thanks to everyone time for answers. Bye bye
Anatoli Posted January 14, 2002 Posted January 14, 2002 FTP ports accounts for many security breaches and are usually more closed, than 591. Why you are not using WSC with port 80?
Anatoli Posted January 14, 2002 Posted January 14, 2002 WSC is WebServerConnector. AFAIK it is for interfacing WebCompanion (on any port) and IIS (or Netscape or Apache) on port 80. http://www.filemaker.com/products/fmu_highlights.html
david s Posted January 15, 2002 Author Posted January 15, 2002 sorry but anatholi i don't understand your answer... i can't run wsc on port 80 bacause i'm running iis on that port... if i put web comp on port 80 it causes a service error because you can'y use the same port for two differente services on iis... that's why i use this configuration: iis: 80 web comp: 591 wsc: 591 if i'm mistaking the configuration please tell me... ps.: what is AFAIK?

I've run into this problem with several severs wanting the same port on the same machine and only one can be on at the same time or it causes problems. Is it necessary that they (Webcompanion and WSV) be on the same port??
david s Posted January 16, 2002 Author Posted January 16, 2002 anyone knows a better solution? thanks in advance
