clz Posted June 2, 2003 Posted June 2, 2003 Help!! I have a database with approx. 18 files that I need to give users access to through the web. I have been reading information on this website as well as others and I am totally confused. I have played with CDML a bit and have read that it is limited to what it can do. Would Lasso be something I should consider? What benefit would this give me? I am also seeing MySQL, PHP, LDML, etc. talked about. What are they and what are their benefits? I have been thrown into this project without much web experience and told to make it work. Any information would be truly appreciated! Cindy
Unable Posted June 2, 2003 Posted June 2, 2003 Lasso and LDML are one and the same. CDML is a very simplified version of LSML which is specific to FileMaker. PHP is a method of serving pages similar to HTML. Your computer must be able to handle PHP. What you should consider is largely dependent upon budget. Lasso is not inexpensive, but reportedly has good support. Perhaps others can enlighten you to MySQL. CDML does not have as many options as Lasso, but it does quite well for many if not most developers. 18 db files is a lot. You may find it convenient to redesign your solution for web use, especially if there are redundancies in those files. Good Luck.
Anatoli Posted June 3, 2003 Posted June 3, 2003 RE: 18 db files is a lot. It depends... We do host on single unlimited around 35-40 databases, for different clients.
Garry Claridge Posted June 3, 2003 Posted June 3, 2003 CDML can be fine. It all depends on what you want to do!!! All the best. Garry
clz Posted June 4, 2003 Author Posted June 4, 2003 Thanks for the replies. I guess I will start with CDML and see how much of the database I can get working that way. Security is going to be a big issue and it sounds like Lasso might eventually come into play because of it. Cindy
