Portals do not always show on web

I am running a database on FM Unlimited 5.0. There is an inventory file with a portal to a related file showing activity against the inventory record in the main file. My problem is that when I do a search if there is only one match the portal is always empty. However, if there are several matches the portal (for the same record) contains the correct data.

Has anyone experienced this before - and how did you resolve it.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
