In this case, it is best to take your import file and import into Excel, where you can explicitly specify the seperator characters. Then save as a comma seperated file for import into Filemaker.

Hi rexjc,

Bob Cusick, used to have a file available at:

http://www.clickware.com/downloads/tips

But I can't seem to get through today. Anyway here is his tip Data Parser that he has available on his site.

If you can get on his site, all you have to do is join (for Free), and you will find several good tip files available.

Hi Rex,

I suggest you check out CobaltSky's NightWing website. Two demos address the issue you're struggling with:

Custom Parsing and Array Expander.

Custom Parsing takes the data and expands it to multiple fields. Array Expander creates separate records. Both examples use the pipe character. Custom Parsing sounds exactly like what you want. smile.gif
