bradford Posted October 28, 2003 Posted October 28, 2003 Warning: I downloaded the latest Web Companion. Now, Safari interprets the interface differently---it's all in rows. There is no evidence of the GUI from the original layout.
kenneth2k1 Posted October 28, 2003 Posted October 28, 2003 I've noticed that Safari displays differently from IE, IE differs from Netscape Navigator and so on. To make it worse, IE:Mac displays differently from IE for Windows. What a pain.
Vaughan Posted October 28, 2003 Posted October 28, 2003 Which latest Web Companion? AFAIK the latest is 6.0v4 (which has been out for ages) at least according to the FMP web site. If you updated WC you probably need to re-configure it; specifically, you probably need to select the default IWP view.

Vaughan Posted November 2, 2003 Posted November 2, 2003 Ah... a correction to my above post: the WC that ships with FMP 6.0v4 (MacOS X) is v1. So indeed WC 6.0v2 is an update. I dunno if the update is listed on the FMI web site yet.
Unable Posted November 3, 2003 Posted November 3, 2003 The things one finds at FM Forums (as of 11/03/2003: 8:11 am PDT): Cleverly disguised as itself: Entrance > News Feed "Oct. 30 FileMaker Web Companion 6.0v2 Updater FileMaker has released an important updater for all Mac OS X users sharing FileMaker files over the Web using FileMaker Web Companion... - FileMaker Inc."
Peter Kyme Posted December 4, 2003 Posted December 4, 2003 I've found the same thing. In my case it's Mozilla. I think the new web plugin is sniffing the browser and supplying the 'basic' formatting if it doesn't detect IE. This is so annoying I can't even begin to describe. Seeing as all our users are Linux they have no choice but to use Mozilla - I spent a fair amount of time making sure the IWP layouts work fine under Mozilla, and now FileMaker pull the carpet out from under me. I realise I could revert to the old web companion but then I don't get the crash bug fix which is something that's been affecting us. Of course as usual there's no way to contact anyone within FM to complain to. All I can do is send a bug report which they'll completely ignore. This may just be the final straw.
Unable Posted December 4, 2003 Posted December 4, 2003 Re: This may just be the final straw. I hope by this that you mean it will be the final straw in dealing with IWP and that you will enhance your own abilities and learn how to use the much more versatile and powerful CWP. If you do make this wise choice you will need to get the CDML Reference database. You can find a link to that by searching the CDML forum. You will also find many examples in the Sample Files forum. Bon chance.

Bon chance. The problem with CWP is that it doesn't let me allow a non technical person to create whichever layout they prefer, and then just put it online. IWP if used with a custom front end still has it's uses.

Clearly I'm missing something (not unusual for me). Consolation for me is I guess it's not my problem. Oh well ...
Vaughan Posted December 5, 2003 Posted December 5, 2003 "The problem with CWP is that it doesn't let me allow a non technical person to create whichever layout they prefer, and then just put it online." Well, see, I'd call that an advantage.
Newbies Tom Ledbetter Posted February 23, 2004 Newbies Posted February 23, 2004 I had the same problem, one solution is to use safari enhancer to tell web companion you are using IE6. than the pages load just fine. This solution has work for me on 99% of the pages that have problems with safari. I know this does not solve the problem with visits but it does show that it would be a very simple fix for apple or filemaker. Would it be possible to have a form that just cover IWP to eliminate all the suggestions to use CDML or any other tags?
Garry Claridge Posted February 24, 2004 Posted February 24, 2004 A Forum soley for IWP is a good idea Garry
