Echo33029 Posted November 13, 2003 Posted November 13, 2003 Does anyone have any idea when the next release of Filemaker (Filemaker 7) will be released. I need to buy some new licenses and I would hate to see the new version released shortly after I purchase these. Echo
ralph.nusser Posted November 14, 2003 Posted November 14, 2003 Look at the timetable posted in another thread FileMaker followed since version 1 and decide yourselve! Timetable FileMaker 1 to FileMaker 7 [color:"red"]My guess Q1 2004.
Robert Kidd Posted November 14, 2003 Posted November 14, 2003 If you buy your new licenses as part of a Volume License Agreement it includes 1 years "maintenace" ( used to be called subscription )which basically means if a new version is released in the next 12 months you will automatically be sent the new version "free".
Anatoli Posted November 14, 2003 Posted November 14, 2003 I'll bet on next DevCon -- if everything goes well
hayesk Posted November 17, 2003 Posted November 17, 2003 I hope they announce something soon. I've already had to begin moving one project over to Objective-C/Cocoa. I don't want have to move more. Even a pre-announcement would be useful so I know what is coming and plan accordingly. Ah well, it's their decision.

If they decide to make 'Filemaker X' a new product then this wont work.
falkaholic Posted November 18, 2003 Posted November 18, 2003 The date is "next year." There are also books coming out on "FileMaker X" showing on online book stores. The release date for the books has been pushed back a month at a time since september. Right now most stores put them at late december. I'm hoping that it get released then (or before). I agree a formal announcement would be helpful, I have a couple large projects coming up and from the features I've heard to be in FIleMaker X, I'd like to plan for that.
Anatoli Posted November 19, 2003 Posted November 19, 2003 Let's say the FM7 or FMX will be launched today. Then if you are genius, you will transfer all old FM5/6 stuff till end of January/February to FM7. If you are just average guy, like myself, don't expect to have everything worked out before end September/December 2004. I guess because I will not bother with XML and rumors are saying there will not be CDML, only XML I will not go with FM7 to the web. It will be Lasso with or without FM. Also I've discussed with my clients possible upgrade to FM7 and so far nobody is interested. Just my 2 pence.
