February 13, 200421 yr Hello People! I couldn't decide where to post this but my concern is definetly about the relationship. Thanx to Chris and Ugo I managed to create a file for "managing" my categories -> to be used in a value list (in other related file). All is great and functioning, but my concern is: "how stable" are the relationships? The idea was to create a GUI that is easier to follow and understand, I am aware that I can not use these relationships in process of "adding"... File is attached, so those of your have expreince with catgories file & management please let me know what you think....perhaps I should have posted in Sample form... anyhow, thanx for the feedback! explore_cats.zip
February 13, 200421 yr Hi Leb i Sol, I think you are on sound ground with this approach. It reminds me of one of John Mark Osborne's files (visibility I think) but I'm interested in what others have to say also. Lee
February 14, 200421 yr Author Great, thanx Lee! I have not seen the example but as long as I am not doing something wrong...as the file and functionality will grow- I would hate to find out that the core (relationships) will kill the concept! Tahnk you for the feedback...I am loving FM lately!
February 14, 200421 yr Nice work Allen, Leb i Sol said: I am aware that I can not use these relationships in process of "adding"... Why ? Check back the TreeBuilder demo, it is just its purpose. Generating and Managing categories.
February 14, 200421 yr Author Hi Ugo! Q:why? A: Honestly,I have bothered you Enough and your file is a bit complex for my levels - I got the copy of it for later de-constrution of it. It was a matter of "finishing what I started" if u know what I mean... I would like to understand what I am making rather blindly copying. Now that I have digested the whole multi-slef relations I can "attack" your file....I was just looking for little reassurance! After all...I am a newbie to "true" FM design....most of my posts came from Web/CDML related forum that dictates DB design in its own direction... Anyhow, you can guess what is my next step! Take care!
February 14, 200421 yr Hi Allen, Here's simplified (which is not my best skill..) how I generate categories. It can be adapted to suit your current "presentation" thanks to the Multikey part of it. Up to 10 levels deep... MulltiLevelsLeb.fp5.zip
