I have FM Server running on a OSX box. I have FM Unlimited running on a PC that serves up some of the files from the FM Server.

FM Server is set to automatically backup the files each night at 10:00. When it does this the PC unlimited access is paused while the backup occurs. It seems that occassionaly after the backup is complete something happens and the PC unlimited does not come back online. When I come in in the morning I have to go and quit Unlimited on the PC and then relaunch it.

Is there anyway to stop this from happening? I guess the easiest way would to find a way to automate FM Unlimited on the PC to quit at 9:59 PM and then to automatically relaunch at 10:02 PM. If I was running Unlimited on a OSX machine I would do this with Applescript. Anyone know how to do this with a Win 2000 server?

Hello, Larry! I can't help you other than to tell you that it exists. I see references to the Windows equivalent of a CRON but I forget what it's called... it's some kind of SCHEDULER or something or TIMER or ... or... (sigh) can't remember. Many folks have had trouble with FMU quits, hangs, and service stalls though on both Mac and Windows. Often, characteristics include CPU hogging (99%+) but everything's fine after reboot/relaunch... nothing concrete as a fix-it-all for everyone. For us, it's weird.. we may go months with continous running and have no problems and then we'll go down 2-3 times a week for a couple weeks... weird.

Well the problem still exists. I was able to schedule the PC to shut down the files during backup, and then re-connect after. This does not seem to be the problem

During the day, the PC Unlimited will just stop serving up the files with web companion. The files are still open on the PC. My OSX server is still serving the files with FM Server just fine. FM Unlimited web companion on my windows 2000 machine just stops without any warning. Happens about twice a day.

I am using the most current version of 6 unlimited, most current version of web companion. I have tried saving the files as a empty clone and then re-importing the records to re-index everything (someone had suggested this).

I am really not running any other services on the windows machine. I just cant seem to figure out why web companion all of a sudden stops working. I was running unlimited on a OSX box and was having FM quit on me at least once a day. I was told it would run more reliably on a PC, but for now, it seems to be even worse.

Is there no way to get this thing to stay connected for more than a day?
