Davidatlamont Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 I am exporting a file to excel. A single field in FM appears as follows (there are reasons why this cannot be separated). When importing to Excel a small box appears after each line, I assume this is a symbol for paragraph mark. Any way to remove these? 226 Seismology LDEO PO Box 1000 61 Route 9W
Wim Decorte Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 Returns in a field are converted to 'vertical tabs' when exported. The reason for that is that returns are the End-Of-Record charachter in most formats. That 'vertical tab' character is the one Excel has trouble with. Probably the best way to get rid of them is to create an Excel macro to clean out those stray characters. You need VBA for that... HTH Wim
Lee Smith Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 Hi Wim, This may be off the wall, because I'm on a Mac and don't have a way to test it, but couldn't you capture one of the characters, and then use Excel built in find and replace. Just a idea, Lee
QuinTech Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 David, could you make a calc field in Filemaker that replaces paragraph marks with, say, pipes and then export that field instead? Your original field would remain intact with respect to paragraph separators. Jerry
