Date problem with FM7

Featured Replies

Hi !

Sorry, if this question has been here already...

I converted a FM6 database to FM7. Now date-field doesn't work how they should. I want to enter dates in dd.mm.yyyy -format. In FM6 this was allraight, but in FM7 it returns 0.0.0000. If I enter dates in dd/mm/yyyy -format it works fine.

What did I do wrong this time ? :

Arttu

Did you try making a clone of the file and setting the File Options to 'Always use current system setting'?

Layout Mode | select date field | Format | Date | Format as | Numeric Separator: .

Hi !

Ok. Now I have tried to use "System formats" and changed date separator to ".". Still it doesn't work. If I put there "Leave date formatted as entered" then it works. Any attempt to format the field results to "Monday 00.00.0000" which doesn't work.

And more: I cannot enter a date in any other format than dd/mm/yyyy. In windows system formats the date format is set to dd.mm.yyyy .

Any other suggestions ? Is this a bug in FM7 ?

Arttu

I again tested the "." separator and it works fine on my system (Windows XP, FM Dev. 7). Maybe you could send the forum an attachment of your table...

Ok. Here it comes. With this test file (included) it still doesn't work. My Windows system settings the Date is in format "dd.mm.yyyy" (the format in use in Finland).

Wow--your problem is confirmed. It must be something to do with your version. I made sure to set English in the Edit | Preferences and use System (not File) settings when loading the file, and still the date would not format mm.dd.yyyy.

Yeah, strange, isn't it... frown.gif

Hi Arttu, and Ronald,

In versions before 7 (i.e. v6 and below), in order to change the date format from

[color:"blue"]day, month, year to [color:"blue"]month, day, year (or vice versa), you have to save your file as a clone

(i.e."Save a copy as", "Clone (no records)". Then create your records, and the file will change to your system settings.

Confirmed what Queue and Lee have told you. Save it as clone and it will work fine. No bug. No difference between versions. This is a known (well-documented and discussed) way to convert date formats.

Transpower, Edit | Preferences and use System (not File) settings makes no difference. Correct. That is not the way to convert international dates. Again, no bug. That's just the way FM has always worked.

Thanks, -Queue-, Lee, and MoonShadow for clarifying this for me. It simply wouldn't occur to me to have to clone the file, change the date format, and import the records back.

Hi there,

I can not get this working under os x either, I have saved an empty copy of the file and done everything sugested, but the problem still presist. I want the date to be formated as dd.mm.yyyy but it fails to recognise anything but dd-mm-yyyy format (that is - instead of .). has this something to do with living in finland?
