Ocean West Posted December 21, 2004 Posted December 21, 2004 Found these around the net... if any are needing solution for creating installer of their shrink wrap solution or demos. Please add or make comment on your success with these products http://www.thraexsoftware.com/ http://www.mindvision.com/ http://www.esellerate.net/ http://www.zerog.com/ http://www.installfactory.com/ (which has some FileMaker anti-piracy tech)
JerrySalem Posted December 21, 2004 Posted December 21, 2004 I haven't used any of these. But here is my $0.02 I found our Mac user base is small but for the most part computer savy and don't need installers. I send a Readme and they put my solution where it should go. Our PC users are much more plentifull and on the hole, need to have their hands held and need installer programs. For this reason I decided to go for a PC installer (they are much cheaper too) rather than a cross platform installer. I use 'Pack to Go' from a developer in the UK. Despite an arcane liscensing scheme, I have found them to be quite responsive and helpfull in getting the software running. they are on the web at http://www.fmpro.co.uk/welcome.htm Getting started with Pack to Go took some experimentation. But once I learned how to use it it does everything I need an installer to do. Which is put the folder where I want and create some shortcuts. Once again the email help was very quick, I got responses generally within 24 hours. They also offer other PC only FMP tools that I haven't tried. But I can easily recomend Pack to Go as a good, cheap, professional looking installer. Jerry
David Holmberg Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 I'm using astrum installwizard from thraex software and I'm satisfied with it. It's simple enough and have all the options I need (which are not many but anyway). I recommend it... David
SteveB Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 I use SetupFactory from Indigo Software. I've been using it for about 3 years, and selected it because Installshield and WiseInstall were both difficult and very expensive. SetupFactory is very easy and has a short learning curve. Steve

cjaeger Posted May 5, 2005 Posted May 5, 2005 inno setup is great! For Macs, I simply do not need a 3rd party tool - just install your Developer Tools CD and create your own packages. Or use Finder copy.
DykstrL Posted May 13, 2005 Posted May 13, 2005 For Windows, I use WinZip self-extracting files. Very nonintrusive to the OS. For Mac, I use Stuffit self-extracting files. Both products are fairly inexpensive.
JerrySalem Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 Christian, can you give this complete and utter nubie a push in the right direction in creating a Mac installer? I installed the Dev tools and I am totally out of my comfort zone. TIA Jerry
cjaeger Posted May 25, 2005 Posted May 25, 2005 Go To /Macintosh HD/Developer/Applications/Utilities/PackageMaker and have a look at the dialogs or simply use the Help Menu Item ...
PeterHW Posted June 2, 2005 Posted June 2, 2005 I haven't used any of those in your list, but recently started looking for installer packages. I tried Tarma (www.tarma.com ), which pretty much did what I wanted, before settling on NSIS (http://nsis.sourceforge.net/home) which is free but a little more of the do-it-yourself variety in stead of click and go. Since I didn't need any complicated actions it proved very suitable and allowed me to create an installer script for my app within 30 minutes. HTH, Peter
