Using << and >> to put fields on layouts

Featured Replies

I often use << and >> around field names on layouts like letters..... Dear <<First name>> for example. But how do you do it when the field you want to put on is a related field? I've tried <<???:fieldname>> but the :: automatically puts in the time!

Anyone got a solution?

Thanks

See attachment! Works normaly.

In layout mode, select "Insert Merge Field" under the Insert menu. You can then select the related field from the field selection box that pops up. Once you insert the field you can now see the format to use to manually enter it yourself.

Thanks. I wasn't sure how to enter the name of the related table. It's all fine and dandy now....except I can't get things to line up quite right!

Look at the Print/Slide Function.

Merge fields do not work like other fields, if you are wanting more then one of them to alien up, they won't look good in Browse mode. If you are using them for a label, or in a document, then you will want them to Slide. The fields still can or will look ugly in Browse Mode, but will react properly in Preview Mode.

Enter Layout Mode >> Select all of the Fields you are wanting to Slide, and then [color:"blue"] Menu >> Format >> Print/Slide and choose the action to slide Left. There are also other options available, you might want to play with them to see how they effect things too.
