June 1, 200520 yr How do you creat a list layout? I can not find any info on how to do this? I have a form layout for my invoice and want to know if I should convert to a list layout. I found this quote in a previous thread: "The other way is instead of creating a form layout on Orders, create a List layout on OrderProducts. Then you make a larger header part with all the related order information, and a trailing grand summary for the order totals etc. You will need this technique if you want to support orders with arbitrarily large numbers of lines, because you can't make a portal spill on to multiple pages nicely. I started out creating all my order and invoice print layouts as forms, and ended up having to recreate them as List layouts on the related table in order to support multi-page invoices and orders." June 1, 200520 yr When creating a new layout, select 'Columnar list/report' or change a current layout to use list view via View -> View As List, in Browse Mode.
June 1, 200520 yr Hi AJ, There are two views in FileMaker that present the data in a List format. One is New in v6, and is done by simply change the view In Browse Mode from Form to Table. Table view has some neat features, and you should dig below the surface and check it out. The other way is List View (you can choose List view in Browse Mode), but it is better to design it instead in Layout Mode. This Layout Option has been available since the beginning of FileMaker. Go into Layout Mode, and Select Layout from the Main Menu. You will then get a sub menu with the List/Report view listed as an option, fill out the name, click on List and then continue to specify the options that you want. HTH. Lee
