Shortcut Keys for "Define Database" dialog?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Does anyone know of a shortcut key combo to open the "Define Database" dialog to a specific dialog? In other words, control+shift+D will open the "Define Database" dialog display showing the last tab that was selected when the dialog was last used. But I'd like to be able to open the dialog showing specifically the Tables, Fields or Relationships tabs selected.

Thanks in advance!

There is script-step Open Define Database. If you create this script and make sure it's one of the first 10 scripts listed, it'll automatically assign Ctrl+# to it which will provide a 'shortcut' key combination.

As for the other specifics about opening to a certain tab? When you create a new file it opens on Define Database. But if you are in Relationships when you close it, it reopens in Relationships. Same with Tables. It remembers your last selection.

I just tried storing 3 scripts. Performed the script then exited - each with different tab. Nada. It only retains your last selection regardless of whether executed via script or manually; and regardless of the script you activate at the time.

I don't think there's a way of doing exactly what I want, but you gave me an idea and this is what I came up with:

When the Define Database dialog is open (control-shift-D) you can switch between tabs with the key shortcuts "control-pg up" or "control-pg dn" (just one of either key combo will suffice, as it "loops" through the tabs). At least this eliminates the need to use a mouse (which is my preference).

Thanks, Moonshadow! smile.gif

CTRL-TAB also switches between the tabs, and CTRL-SHIFT-TAB cycles backwards through the tabs. Since the tab key is near the D key, I find it more convenient to use than the page keys. I wish the dialog didn't remember what tab it was on. Then it would be easy to hold down ctrl and shift, and whack D and TAB once or twice to go instantly to the desired tab. It's making my automation efforts very difficult. frown.gif

That is a better (easier) key combo, Barbecue... Thanks!

I still wish that I could control which tab it opens to. It would be nice to have a keyboard shortcut that opens to the Fields tab if Fields is what you intend to work with at that moment. Same with Tables and Relationships.

When the Define Database dialog is open (control-shift-D) you can switch between tabs with the key shortcuts "control-pg up" or "control-pg dn"
This appears to be a Windows-only feature.

I think so also, I immediately tried it, and it didn't work for me either.
