If I recall, Filemaker 6 won't do ssl encryption for forms from PHP.

Correct me if I am wrong, and where to begin on implementing this secure transfer of data?

You can do SSL for Browser to PHP. Then the communication between PHP and FM should be on an internal secure network (or even on the same computer).
