.0Opening Shared Databases Remotely Using A URL in 8.0v2

Featured Replies

When I was using 8.0v1, I am able to access database remotely using

FMP7://IPAddress/MyApplicaiton.fp7

After upgrading to 8.0v2, when run, it gave this error "protocol fmp7 does not have a registered program". Is it a bug in 8.0v2 ?

rejoice,

Yeah, it's a bug. It can be fixed if you are willing to go into the Windows Registry.

Send me a PM and I'll email you the steps necessary.

Thanks Ted..but how do I send a PM ??

Regards

This feature's name was changed a few months back when we changed software. It was called Private Message (PM), it is now called Private Topic. To start a new one, Click on the Members name (Ted), on the left side, it will bring up Ted's profile. One of the options at the top of his profile page is to Start a Private topic. Click on that, and fill it out like you would any other Post, except you most provide a Subject.

I am astounded that FileMaker does not have a word about this on their KB. At least, not that I can find after multiple searches. Amazingly I found this on the Swedish Filemaker site.

The last thing I want to do is do registry hacks on 50+ workstations.

This is, for us, a show stopper especially when you add in the issue where local hosts do not appear without a manual switching back and forth between Local Hosts and Favorites in the Open Remote dialogue, another undocumented bug.

Come on FileMaker!!

If you've got 50+ workstations, you must have AD running...big assumption on my part of course. }:(

Just define a group policy with the necessary registry keys set. That way when you no longer need it (v3?) you can undo the change easily.

Just another idea to add to the pile...
