June 2, 200619 yr i made a potal on a related layout. layout has a bunch of global feilds with choicec(check boxes) i made a script that for every option choosen the script goes to the last row of hte portal (the entry row) and puts in info... i have everything checked that i would need to, to make new records through a portal...and my relation ship is good because i can see records that are already there. it gives me the same error message as when you try to edit a calculation feild...but none of the feilds are calc feilds...help please
June 3, 200619 yr Have you checked 'Allow Creation of Related Records' in your relationship graph on the child side?
June 5, 200619 yr We could continue playing 20 Questions but it would be easier if you post your script. You aren't trying to set the related ID field are you? You can only create related records (in an Allow Creation of Related) based upon =. Personally, I don't like using a portal to create related. Or just post your file. :wink2:
June 5, 200619 yr Author well its not the script that is messing up. the script would work i've done it in another file and it has worked just fine. filemaker will not allow me to enter anything in the blank data entry row, manually or through script. my key feilds are the same i have a a global calculation in each that is set to = 1. all i need is a connection to be able to create from one to the other. i have the connection the portals shows up already created records, and the data entry row shows up at the bottom of the portal, but i can not enter anything into it. how can i attatch my file...if it is not an accepted file type...and i don't know how to zip things Edited June 5, 200619 yr by Guest
June 5, 200619 yr how can i attatch my file...if it is not an accepted file type...and i don't know how to zip things Then you need to learn how to do that first. Once you have the zip process down, then read the Forum Help on how to attach a file. June 5, 200619 yr Author ok its the portal on the right side of the New_lots_sub layout. the relation ship is between the green new_lots_sub table and the red jobs_new_lot table. radar.zip
June 5, 200619 yr The field on the right side of your relationship, New_lot_pk, is indeed a calculation field, set to global storage. That's why you get the error. If you change it to a simple number field, the relationship will work; as far as it goes. It is not a "primary key" however.
June 5, 200619 yr Author i know it isn't the pk i had it as the fk but when it wasn't working i copied the pk field over thinking if i had the exact same definitions it would work and never changed it thanks
