scolesm Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 Hey everybody Alright, you know you know this one! I know this question is notably silly, but how do I change the order in which my layouts appear on the dropdown list (the main one on the left)? I keep on making new layouts that are more important that I want to put up to the top, but I can't, for some silly reason figure out how. Thank you very much for helping me, Michael
stanley Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 Michael: In Layout mode, under the Layout menu, select "Set Layout Order.." and you can rearrange the order of their appearance in the menu bar. -Stanley
scolesm Posted July 11, 2006 Author Posted July 11, 2006 Haha. I knew it would be that simple. Thank you very much! ???
Marybelle Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 I have a question related to yours: How do you add extra lines to separate the layouts? There are two on my list and I need more to visually separate the layouts. Thanks!
Inky Phil Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 Hi Marybelle Creatre 2 new layouts and call them -------------------------- or '''''''''''''''''''''''''' (you get the picture). Arrange them in your layout table so that they do what you want HTH Phil
mleiser Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 Another related question. I have a lot of layouts in one file and in order to see the lower ones you need to scroll down the list. In the past I remeeber having it come up one list next to another and you didn't need the scrolling unless you have too many side by side. Any ideas? Mike
Marybelle Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 (edited) In reply to the last comment, I too was wondering what would happen if I ever get that many layouts which extend beyond the column. What I'm doing right now is creating a 'home page' with links to the layouts where I can design the links in such a way that there is logic beyond the list with obscure names. I plan on putting this new layout as a link on the top of each of my layouts. Edited August 1, 2006 by Guest
scolesm Posted August 1, 2006 Author Posted August 1, 2006 If you ever create more than 44 (not positive on the number) layouts, the drop-down menu for them adds gets scrolling arrows to the top and bottom
Marybelle Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 Hey...I've got a better solution inspired by you Inky Phil! If you save that new layout as - (dash only) then it displays just as a thin gray line and does not serve as a layout! Thanks for inspiring this!
Ender Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 I'd advise against using the separator layout for anything other than a separator in the layout list. If you're putting fields on those layout's it will become very difficult to locate the right layout again later. In my opinion, none of the layouts should be available in the layout menu (in Browse Mode). You should instead use buttons for the user to navigate around.
mleiser Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 My question wasn't regarding the user. It's when I have to madify a layout or check something out, it's more difficult to scroll up and down than it is to see across like I'm sure it was in a previous version. Is there a setting somewhere? Mike
Marybelle Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 Oh yeah, I needed a separator to the actual layouts...nothing is in the - (dash only) layouts. Without the line, i was having trouble distinguishing importance and groups.
mleiser Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 Here's another one. Is there a way to printout a listing of all the layout names so that I can decide on the order I want to see them in the list? Mike
Ender Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 My question wasn't regarding the user. It's when I have to madify a layout or check something out, it's more difficult to scroll up and down than it is to see across like I'm sure it was in a previous version. I have never seen this functionality in any of the previous versions.
scolesm Posted August 1, 2006 Author Posted August 1, 2006 Just out of curiosity, how many layouts do you have?
Marybelle Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 For the links to be easier to view, check out what I was referring to as the 'home page' on the post Wrong Name continually pulled (also in the Layouts forum).
mleiser Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 Since you're curious, too many! I put this particular application together using version 1 on a Mac before the windows version was available. I kept building on it. I should rewrite it but there's never any time. It's still on 6. I have some stuff on 7 that I should have rewritten as well. I'm the administrator of the school so I have to stick to quick and dirty in order to get all my jobs done. In any event, yes, it used to come up side by side but I don't remember when. Mike
