hartmut Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 I know you can script using a paragraph mark. What can you use to make a tab in a text formula in a calculation. Thanks
John Mark Osborne Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 A carriage return is represented by the "¶" character. There is even a button that will insert it for you in the calculation dialog. The tab character is a little harder. You'll have to enter it into a text block in layout mode and copy and paste it into a calculation formula inside quotes.
Raybaudi Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 It's not that harder ! On Windows machines: CTRL+TAB On Mac: some similar combination ( I think )
comment Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 Daniele, on a Mac it's option-tab, but you cannot type this directly into a formula box. You need to do what John Mark said, or type option-tab into a field in Browse mode, copy it and then paste it into the formula.
Raybaudi Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 I didn't know that there is so much difference from making a calc in Win vs Mac with the same program
LaRetta Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 Daniele, there is a difference. I use both Mac and pc and what Comment says is true. And NOT ONLY in this instance - there is a list of differences between behaviors when using Mac or Windows. :o
LaRetta Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 Daniele, What I wanted to say but got side-tracked (blush) ... is I keep meaning to come up with a list of all differences. After all, we are a cross-platform program. But I've realized that many developers have no idea of many of the changes between the two! And, more and more, FileMaker is being used in cross-platform environments (and not just when booting Macs in Windows). There are many differences in shortcuts, popup behaviors, file paths and so forth. So yes, I was agreeing with you that it is surprising to most people who only use one platform. But I think it should nonetheless be TESTED within our scripts when appropriate. Otherwise, you will hit surprises by the first time a Mac user tells you a solution which worked fine for windows users now breaks for them! I know ... I've had it happen. Anyway, I don't plan to hijack this thread - I only wanted to clarify why I responded in such a strange manor. My mind goes too fast in too many directions somethimes. I've also been playing a lot today! LaRetta
Raybaudi Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 There are many differences in shortcuts, popup behaviors, file paths and so forth. Hi LaRetta I know some of them, I didn't know the one above: a different way to make a simple calc containig a TAB char :o
