Pasted text formatting

Featured Replies

How do you get pasted text to comply with a field's formatting?

The online help says that pasted text is supposed to take on the filed format settings, but mine is not. I am copying info from .pdf manuals and I have to adjust indents, etc.

Fitz

You have to paste it without style.

Command +Option +V

The online help can help you. Look up Keyboard Shortcuts (Macintosh) Here

Thanks for responding.

I tried that but it does not work. I have no indent on the first line

and a small indent in the other lines for each paragraph.

But when I paste block of text it comes out with some indentations and some not indented.

I've tried to separate blocks of text into paragraphs and highlight them and going to the Paragraph formatting menu and clicking on apply. Nothing seems to work.

I believe it is doing what it was suppose to do. i.e., if it removed Text Styles (Font, size, Bold, italic, underline, color, etc, that is what it is suppose to do. However, it now sounds as if you are talking about the paragraph formatting. If so, I don't think that the cmd + op + v will do anything about tabs, returns, indents, etc.

If I'm not understanding your lasted questions, then let me know.

Could you post a sample file, say with 2 records: one correctly formatted and one pasted and incorrect?

I tried to show the formatting in my last post but this 'forum software' undid everything.

Yes, I am talking about paragraph formatting. So maybe FMP can't format pasted text that way. ??

Filemaker doesn't know the difference between typed and pasted. Obviously, there's something specific in the pasted text that interferes with the intended formatting. If you care to attach a sample file, we'll be able to find what it is. Most likely it's invisible control characters, but I prefer seeing to guessing.

Does the text being copy and pasted contain the tabs, and indent, or is this the format off the field where the paragraph has the formatting, but the pasted text doesn't abide by the format of the field when you paste it using the cmd+op+v?

No, it is just squared off, even left margined text.

Do you have video conference capability? It may be the only way to show you. If you do my screen name is

I don't think my point is getting across. Descriptions or pictures will not help here. Attach an actual Filemaker file (zipped) to your post here.

I have both Skype and iChat.

Let me know if this is what you mean.

Absolutely

I can use my iSight camera to show you what I'm talking about since we can't format in this text box.
