FileMaker Data Modelling, design efficiency and correctness

Featured Replies

Hi,

Is there any tool available in FileMaker market, which I can use to do the following::

1. Find out the effectiveness and correctness of relationships graphs created in my FileMaker Database.

2. Find out inefficiencies in script logics.

3. In general list me out the issues if present in the data modelling, design of my filemaker database.

Lets take an example::

MDM reporting tool allows me to generate several pre and post conversion issues with my FM database.

I am looking for a tool which will give me answers for my above questions, for the existing version of my filemaker database.

Welcome to the forums Pushkraj,

These tools will help you look at "errors" and items in your logic that is un-referenced and may allow you to remove obsolete code.

You may be interested to review Base Elements http://www.goya.com.au/baseelements

or Inspector http://fmnexus.com/products/inspector/

and this one just announced today http://www.fmforums.com/forum/showtopic.php?tid/202356/fromactivity/posts/

I have a pefect working filemaker database, with no field missing errors or script missing errors. Its a product rather. Its a multifile application. The tools suggested are just giving me list of layouts, value list etc etc just as DDR does. What if my database is a non broken one? How should I measure its correctness and efficiency of code(Scripts) and relationships for a non broken database with multiple files.

I have perfect running filemaker database software which is multi-file application and consists of 6 to 7 files. All interconnected via file references.

None of the scripts are broken neither other broken elements at database level or relationship level.

My requirement is how to calculate the efficiency of this entire database. How to judge that the data modeling techniques deployed are correct one? How to judge that the script logic is perfect and without any loopholes? How to judge that the relationship graphs present are perfect without any issues?

Are there any specific techniques to be followed? or please suggest if any tool is available in the FileMaker market.

I do not have a straight answer to your post but I am a great believer in 'If it aint broke.....'

You can look into tools such as Base Elements to help you look at the DDR. As for which technique is the right technique, there is no set standard. Although you can choose a certain data model, there is no tool to tell you that it right or wrong since its based on your preference.

I would suggest you hire a high end developer or development firm if you want your files inspected for optimization.

Why did you double post after you received answers already last week??

I merged your to Threads. Please do not double post your questions. If you have a followup question on an existing questions, just Reply to it with the additional need.
