no23rman Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 in FMA11, how do you change "Filemaker Pro" in the custom validation box? Afterall these years, do i need another plugin?
bruceR Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 No; you need to read the manual on FileMaker 11 standard features. Filemaker script triggers include a new option, onObjectValidate. You can do whatever you want with validation. Note that script triggers are layout based and not the same as validation at the field-definition level.
LaRetta Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 You are asking if you can change the 'FileMaker Pro' in the title of the messages to something we specify - just as we can do with Custom Dialog. The answer is no, sorry, we can't. That has nothing to do with reading the manual on standard FileMaker features, by the way. So remove field-level validation and, using script triggers, apply your own custom dialog.
comment Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 If the validation is important to data integrity, I'd leave it in place, just in case...
no23rman Posted May 31, 2010 Author Posted May 31, 2010 this really put the real meaning to "Custom". LOL thanks guys
bruceR Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 (edited) You are asking if you can change the 'FileMaker Pro' in the title of the messages to something we specify - just as we can do with Custom Dialog. The answer is no, sorry, we can't. That has nothing to do with reading the manual on standard FileMaker features, by the way. Wrong. The question was, do I need a plugin to get different results, after all these years are we still confined to the original limitations of the validation message box. The answer to that question - same for so many FileMaker questions - is not to experience disappointment through premature evaluation. Keep looking. Becoming familiar with new features is accomplished by reading about them. OnobjectValidate is a new FM11 feature. Searching help on validation would reveal this, and it is a generally good idea to become familiar with the new feature list. Edited May 31, 2010 by Guest
comment Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 This is not a quiz, and you're not the referee. Take your hand off the buzzer.
PotzUK Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Make a backup of the FMStrs.dls file in your ExtensionsEnglish folder and rename it FMStrs.fp7 The file is a list of all the strings/calculation names used in Filemaker... I'm sure one of them controls the text displayed on various dialog boxes.
Steven H. Blackwell Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 Make a backup of the FMStrs.dls file in your ExtensionsEnglish folder and rename it FMStrs.fp7 I would recommend that you do[color:red] not do this. Steven
PotzUK Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 That's why I suggested he make a backup of it, in case it got chewed. As per http://fmforums.com/forum/showtopic.php?tid/192705/post/278957/hl/FMStrs.dls/fromsearch/1/#278957
Steven H. Blackwell Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 That's why I suggested he make a backup of it, in case it got chewed. That's really not the operative issue here. Renaming resources is not a good idea. Steven
PotzUK Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 Well it was a given that you close Filemaker, duplicate the strings file and rename the copy to .fp7, edit the fp7, close Filemaker and then swap the files around...
JerrySalem Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Another problem with editing the resource, is that every time you upgrade your copy of FMP you will need to remember to make this change. Also whenever you install FMP on a new computer you must make this change.
Steven H. Blackwell Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 And more likely than not, if a resource is modified, when the v-rev update is attempted, it will fail. This has happened before, and it may still be the case. Steven
