Lee Raney Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Sorry if in wrong forum, but not sure which this would fall into. I have a "progress bar" with 8 buttons that are clickable to show a completed task in a progression method. My question is I want to create a timestamp field next to the button that when clicked enters the date and time. I appreciate everyones help for this newbie.
efen Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 Are you FileMaker 8 certified and advanced skill level? And you need to ask this question?
normanicus Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 Are you FileMaker 8 certified and advanced skill level? And you need to ask this question? So if Albert Einstein asks a simple question you call him an idiot. Don't be rude.
bcooney Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 Welcome to the Forums, Lee. I would imagine that each button has a timestamp field associated with it. You can assign a Set Field script step to each button that enters the Get (CurrentHostTimeStamp) into the respective timestamp field. If each button needs to do more than that, a script assigned to each button will be necessary. I do agree that this question is one you'd expect from a FM novice, and brings your self-ranking into doubt. Many people are confused by this self-ranking. I've seen people who use FM Advanced label their skills as "Advanced." Perhaps we're underestimating the requirements. Can you post a screen shot of your layout?
efen Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 Yes, welcome to the forums ... Does the attached answer your question ------- Normanicus: My reply was not rude - it simply queried whether someone who shows they have FileMaker certification needs to ask such a question. Inappropriate maybe progress.zip

Lee Raney Posted August 2, 2010 Author Posted August 2, 2010 LOL wow. Ok didnt know my expierence level was an issue. Let me clear this up for all of you. I am sure im not as smart as any of you. By Newbie I meant to the board. I have done three levels of certification thru Support Group in Boston and San Fran. Sadly they dont go over everything, so there is tons i dont know. I use Filemaker in a very limited window at my workplace. Im sorry i dont meet anyones expectations, I thought this board was for help from others with more experience. Change my qualification to whatever you feel it needs to be. I am not that into titles, just tried to answer questions to satisfy the sign up process. Oh and get a life, lol.
comment Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Did you look at the files posted by efen? It would seem to me they provide an answer to your question - if not, please clarify. Off topic: your skill level is useful in tailoring the response to your abilities. Adjusting it is in your own interest.
efen Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Is the attached any nearer what you need? It is a variation of progress2 file in a post above progress3.zip
Lee Raney Posted August 2, 2010 Author Posted August 2, 2010 Yes works great, although I have no idea how to utilize it within my own database. Thanks for answering.
Lee Raney Posted August 2, 2010 Author Posted August 2, 2010 Ok I found a way to make the circle a button that auto enters a timestamp, but now when you click the button it doesnt enter the white circle to show that its complete, any ideas? Thanks guys.
efen Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Circle? It may be easier to understand what you need if you post a stripped down copy of your file.
Lee Raney Posted August 3, 2010 Author Posted August 3, 2010 This is a screen shot - file is too large with 25 layouts, too big to upload.
