Alternative to "Insert File only as a reference" (container field)

Featured Replies

My existing solution uses: "Insert File only as a reference" in combination with a container field, to reference .pdf docs on a Windows server, accessed by OS X (with the share already mounted) and Windows. Both that, and apparently the ability to open those files, are not possible with IWP. I've searched FM docs and this forum a bit -- the only thing I've seen so far is someone storing files as .html files. I'm looking for a way to replace the functionality I have, in IWP. I'd even be willing to use FMP to do the inserts, if only IWP could open the files, where they exist now. Thanks for letting me know what is / isn't possible.

Hi, Ken:

Have you checked out SuperContainer or DocuBin from 360works?

Scott, Unfortunately, there is no funding for any additional software, but I really appreciate you posting those options. - Ken

Ken -- check out the newly released FM 12, which features a new Container Field management system that replicates much of what Supercontainer does, but completely native to FIlemaker. Well worth the upgrade for this alone!

You'd need to have them on a webserver and then use the OpenURL to trigger a browser to load them
