Creating records in a portal that are stored in the main file

Featured Replies

Well not easy to word in English..!!

I have a list of persons, of which I consider the head of the family (generally the father) that is entered with name surname, d.o.b, record ID etc..

on the same layout I have a portal in which I want to enter the rest of the family (wife, children, etc living under the same roof)

I want these father and family members be in one single list of persons, and of course related (by creation in the portal) when I need to treat them as family.

My problem is that a portal is for related records, and I turned the problem in many ways, but got kind of brain exhaustion...!!

Any lead will be appreciated. Also accepting slaps..!!!

You should add a field HeadOfFamilyID which will contain the ID of the head of family.

Create a new Table Occurrence of your Persons table, and relate it to the original table by Persons::ID = NewPersonsTO::HeadOfFamilyID.  Make a portal to NewPersonsTO with "Allow Creation of records..." checked.

This type of relationship is called a "self-join" and is very powerful.  You can search for other examples of this technique.
