I am trying to sort out my options for adding a SSL to a low traffic web site, but the info from FM is confusing. So far, I have found that the Mac Server software listed by FileMaker, Inc. as supported by the Web Server Connector:

5 FMWSC Server Requirements

Mac OS 8.6 or later:

AppleShareIP 6.2 (no SSL support)

WebStar 4.0

or

Mac OS X Server 1.02 with Apache 1.3.6

5.5 FMWSC Server Requirements

Mac OS X Server 10.0.3 and Apache Web Server 1.3.19

What gives with the downgrade in supported servers with 5.5. (I hope they aren

I would recommend you have a good look at......

www.filemaker.com

www.starnine.com

www.blueworld.com

www.lassodev.com (useful stuff on setting up different servers and different configs)

RE: "But WebStar 4.0 does not appear to be available (at the WebStar site)."

WebSTAR 4.x (4.5 is the latest classic version and was released this week) is still available and is on the 4D/WebSTAR web site. (you'll pay more in comparison to version V). visit http://store.4d.com/4DCGI/productList.html (near the bottom of the page)

RE: "Is it really not compatible with 5.5"

WebSTAR doesn't need to be "compatible" with FileMaker 5.5 as such (beyond working with the same OS when used together on a single box) as they works seperately - they listen on different ports. unless you link the two with WSC or Lasso 3.x (or both - but thats another story wink.gif) ......

...... WSC is compatible with WebSTAR 4.5

...... Lasso 3.x is compatible with FMPro 5.5 and 5 and WebSTAR 4.x

RE: "What is the true compatibility matrix for the FMWSC 5 and 5.5?"

I would recommend downloading white papers, guides and manuals etc as they will give you good insight into which configs work best together.....there is a lot on the forums about the virtues of different setups - I'm a WebSTAR / Lasso man myself so I'm going to be biased when it comes to recommending what will get the best out of FileMaker in OS 9.x ....... you need to research what will fit best into your needs. If you have more specific questions there are loads of people here that will be more than happy to help

good luck
