rob Posted May 2, 2015 Posted May 2, 2015 I have FMP Advanced 13.0v3 and I checked to see if there were recent updates and it says 13.0v9? and it has become very complex in how to update. Am I the only one feeling a bit flummoxed over it? It wasn't that long ago I checked for updates so how can it jump to 9?
Ocean West Posted May 2, 2015 Posted May 2, 2015 Rob, 13.0.v5 came out during the "Heartbleed" media blitz regarding around August of 2014 http://thefmkb.com/13886 and also added support for Yosemite (10.10) 13.0v9 addresses other SSL concerns http://thefmkb.com/14568 If you are deploying your solution without ANY SSL enabled then you can pretty much upgrade at will. If you are using FileMaker's SSL now for TESTING ONLY you must update server first then clients & FMGo (which may already have been auto updated on iOS devices ) If you are using your OWN custom SSL Certificate it's still recommended to upgrade your server first install your SSL make sure it's working then install the updates to all the other clients. FMI has made every product's vRev v9 so to eliminate confusion and mismatched version numbers as the update encompasses the same patches to all products. If you are deploying in a mixed 12/13 environment then update FMP 13 first and then also update 12 which they also updated as well. http://thefmkb.com/14557 2
Wim Decorte Posted May 2, 2015 Posted May 2, 2015 FM Go was already at 13v8 whereas FMP and FMS were still at 13v5. So the next available # across all products was v9. 1
LaRetta Posted May 2, 2015 Posted May 2, 2015 (edited) Hi Stephen, The last link you provided 14557 is no longer there (at least for me). I found the information here http://help.filemaker.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/14358/related/1 I think they very recently changed it. Hi Wim, It is nice that they synchronized the numbers - it was getting confusing! Edited May 2, 2015 by LaRetta
rob Posted May 3, 2015 Author Posted May 3, 2015 Thank you both for the great answers and it explains it well. Does it go by the client version opening the served file or by what is specified in File Options of a file? Nobody opens it using 12 because we all have 13 and now all 13.0v9 and FMS is now 13.0v9 but some of my files have File options set to allow 12.0 still. When I get to the office I will close them and set them to 13 but I wanted to open them remotely from here today. Will that cause a problem for me if I open them? Also how do I find out of we are using ssl. You might think I should know but I inherited this project and I do not even know what SSL means much less where to find it.
Wim Decorte Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 SSL is an option that can be turned on in the FMS admin console. If it is on, you will see a small lock icon at the bottom left of your FMP screen, next to the zoom scale. I am lost on what you mean with "Does it go by the client version opening the served file or by what is specified in File Options of a file?"
Fitch Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 It's not per client or per file, Rob. As Wim said, it's a server setting so it affects ALL files hosted on that server, regardless of client. The main point of the circular instructions on the FileMaker site is: upgrade server first, before upgrading clients. If you upgrade the client first, and didn't upgrade the server, and you're using SSL, you might not be able to see your files.
