File Closing

Featured Replies

I'm having a problem with my File Maker Pro 5.5 Unlimited file going offline periodically.

I'm using Instant Web Publishing on a Windows NT server.

The file is about 56,000 records used for inquiry and search purposes. About once

or twice a day the file no longer appears on the Instant Web Publishing Page.

Then I need to close the file on the server and re-open it.

I've tried increasing the memory to about 5,000k and I've downloaded and applied

the latest updates. Neither of these helped, although increasing the memory

made the searches go faster.

This same file worked fine using File Maker Pro 5 (for well over a year).

I didn't start having problems until I upgraded to File Maker Pro Unlimited.

I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

Are you really sure you're running FMP Unlimited :

There have been lots of postings about the 10 IP address limit in each 12 hours - but I don't understand why everything was o.k. with FMP before. (It's something to do with licence numbers)

Are there more users now ? Is this what prompted the upgrade.

Come on, the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth !

Yes, I'm really really sure that I'm running File Maker Pro Unlimited. The reason that we

updated File Maker Pro to File Maker Pro Unlimited is because of the limit to the

number of individuals who can access the file.

It's great to know that we spent $1,000 on an upgrade and the previous version

worked better - except that only 10 people can access it in a 12 hour period.

I need help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YOU CANT HANDLE THE TRUTH!!!

(i just love saying it)

I think in the FMU Web Companion plugin configuration preferences there is an option that has to be explicitly chosen to allow unlimited IP addresses. Check to see what it's set to.

If Vaughans suggestion doesn't work then surely you get a few phone calls to FMI at no charge for your $1000. This is, after all, their single most expensive product.

It's already set for unlimited users. I'll try calling Tech Support.

Make sure you have installed all the upgrades to Filemaker 5. I had similar reliability issues until I update my copies of unlimited & the web companion. The latest version is Filemaker 5.0 v3. Web Companion is 5.0 v6. You can use the regular Filemaker 5. updater that is on the Filemaker Web Site without losing the unlimited users. I would bump the memory allocation up to more like 60,000 + K
