Earlier this year we added the Overlay functions to our MBS FileMaker Plugin. You can use them to show a graphic on screen outside or on-top of the FileMaker windows on macOS and Windows. This is great for showing splash screen with your logo when the solution starts, some navigation or arrows for a tutorial. What you show is up to you and some people just use it as a notification banner. For version 14.5 we add a new function called Overlay.AddWebViewer to the plugin. Let's help a few FileMaker developers using FileMaker a lot to edit layouts. Sometimes you may want to get the field name for a layout object. Whether you like to paste it to ChatGPT to use the names or you just need to know what field to use for a calculation, a hotkey to get the field name into the clipboard can be very useful. From time to time we get asked to provide an example for ChatGPT. Since this is just another web service, we can just handle it with the CURL functions in MBS Plugin. But since we don’t like to block the user interface while ChatGPT processes the request, we use our CURL.PerformInBackground function to run it in the background. Missing serial numbers If you use serial numbers for new records in FileMaker, you may notice that sometimes the serial numbers have a gap. Why could this happen? Someone deleted a record Someone created a record, but never committed it. FileMaker crashed or network got disconnected while a transaction runs, so it never completes. You need to know that on record creation, the client will request a new serial number from the server. A few days ago we got a request on whether we can directly integrate ChatGPT to the ScriptWorkspace in FileMaker. Since we have already plenty of extensions to the ScriptWorkspace on macOS, we can just add a menu command for this. For Windows, the same thing could be done as a hotkey.
