  1. Thanks, I could have spent a couple of hours creating layouts and changing scripts to test this, but you saved me some time.
  2. I am importing thousands of records into several different tables. I'm wondering, do I have to be on a layout for a certain table when I import into it? If not, could go to a layout that says "Importing records..." and then skip all the time it takes to redraw the screen while I'm importing? It's just taking to long to do the import and then the calculations that follow it for calc fields.
  3. If you log in to the new file using a username and password that is available in the old one, then you shouldn't be asked for a password. I have used a relogin script before that executes in the import script that relogs me in as a user that is present in the old system (a dummy user used only for this process) and then performs the import.
  4. Ed, If you need help, I can offer two things. 1. First of all, I can give you general phone tutoring in FMpro letting you see the insides of an existing application that has tabs and general info, etc. like you desire. I'll show you how to add fields and create layouts, etc. Then you would be able to get started defining fields and creating general layouts yourself. 2. Secondly, when you get to the more difficult screens or reports, or if you get to the point where you're glad you've learned the basics but just want it finished, I can finish the project for you. I work hourly and you would completely own the project when It's completed. I have literally hundreds of references all over the U.S. Call 1-800-531-7148 if you need me.
  5. Jeff, Here is one solution I have used a number of times to distribute a new "version" of existing software. It appears very professional to the users and has worked very well. I distribute all software over the Internet and my users simply run the installer and run one command. First you need a script in your new version called "Run Special Command". This script shows up in your Scripts menu (I rename it Tools)and can be chosen by a user who is then asked to enter in the special command. My script contains an entire list of special commands I might want my user to run once in awhile and one of the commands is "GetData". My "GetData" command goes out and opens their old version which was renamed by my installer when the new version was installed and imports the data. I have of course a whole list of scripts for each file and table that imports every field from the old version into every field in the new. When the process is completed, it politely tells them "Your data was imported from a previous version. Please print a new manual....." Other examples of commands you might want to script and have available for the "Run special Command": Empty, RestartID, etc. You could skip the "Run special Command" step all together and just have your file look for the previous version data files and if found import. Hope this helps.
  6. No relationship involved, it's just a several fields that are defined as text and formatted as checkbox. When I click the checkbox you don't see the X, the box is just gone. This is not being "served", it works well on hundred's of other computers, it is a bound version that isn't even working through filemaker pro. It's a brand new machine with a AMD Sempron processor and 512 mb ram.
  7. I have a solution that has worked well but suddenly on a new computer, when any of my FMPro solutions are used and I check a check box or radio button, the field sort of dissappears until I click elsewhere and then back on the field. What's up?

  9. Brand new, never installed FileMaker Pro 6 Unlimited CD and Web server Connector & Tools CD for SALE to highest bidder. Since I purchased it just weeks before 7 came out, they shipped me 7 Advanced free so I don't need the 6 anymore.
  10. I currently have a table of dates and if an entry is > a certain date, I want a calculation field named Status to be set to
  11. I'm not giving many details yet and only want serious people/organizations to reply. I have two peices of software developed in FMPro that have been selling around the U.S.A. for six years (approx. 600 clients currently). Current users pay a yearly subscription fee which is a good enough living in itself. Additionally, there are new purchasers and derivitive products that last year alone brought in $50,000 with an additional $100,000 contract being awarded that was nixed by the legislature and may come about this year. It's also important to note that I have done little or no advertising and yet have clients in 48 states! I was just blessed to find a nitch where my previous experience was absolutely necessary to get the project going and has therefore kept competitors out completely. Now that it is up and running, I think anyone who is very good at FmPro, and has a head for business, could do very well. I have only been spending about 20 hours a week on these projects so I either have hire people or sell these two products. My other projects are unrelated and I would keep them. Only interested parties need reply.
  12. I've done FileMaker for many years but just now experimenting with custom web pages. I have a system that I want to offer over the web that asks a user to create their own login account before they enter. Any suggestions? Later when they log in, I don't want to allow them to enter unless they have a username and password. Those items will be passed as tokens to different web pages and effect what they see.
