  1. Hi all, I have a sub summary report I would like to display 0 values on. It is a simple table that is summarized by product category with an amount for each category. Filemaker only summarizes what is in the found records. I would like it to summarize all 4 product categories even though some product categories have no value in the amount field to summarize. See the example below. This is how it summarizes: Category Amt Product A $1000 Product C $2000 This is how I would like it to summarize: Category Amt Product A $1000 Product B $0 Product C $2000 Product D $0 Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Eric
  2. Hello all, I'm currently using the separation model. I have previously kept the interface file on the server in the same folder as the data file. I've recently tried putting the interface file as a separate copy on a couple users’ workstations. This has improved performance. However, I'm a little weary on how record locking (or lack thereof) will work. I was wondering if anyone has had trouble with corrupt data when 2 users are attempting to change the same data. As a test, I went into the same field as another user w/out any locking warning from filemaker. (Both interface files independent, on separate workstations, accessing data from the same file on the server) I have lockout scripts in place that I use prior to editing a record or starting scripts in which a change of data occurs. But, those scripts rely on filemaker recognizing other users having the same record open. I could change those scripts to not use filemaker for the lockout, and do it using fields, but I'd prefer not to.... So that brings me to my question: Has anyone ever had any corruption, or data loss issues due to using the scenario described above? Thanks, Eric
  3. Worked like a charm. Thanks for the assistance. Very much appreciated.
  4. Yes, same ten lines in same order on each record.... and I am using 7. I know, a little old school.
  5. Hello all, I want to separate the data below (which comes from one text field) into ten separate fields within the same record. For instance, "Status" is a field and "Received" would populate it. "Date/Time" is a field and "2/12/2010 4:33:07 PM" would populate it. etc, etc. Any ideas from the text parsing wizards out there would be appreciated. : Thanks, Eric Status: Received Date/Time: 2/12/2010 4:33:07 PM Speed: 14400 bps Connection time: 00:36 Pages: 1 Resolution: Normal Remote ID: 18885551212 Line number: 1 DTMF/DID: 1 Description: Fax received from 18885551212
  6. Hi there, I'm trying to use instant web publishing in FM7 for a few simple editing tasks on a file being referenced from a file which holds the data. However when I open up the Interface file over the web, the editing button, along with most of the buttons are dimmed out. I have given access to every privledge set to use IWP, and the account / privilege set I am using has access to add, delete, and edit the records in both the data file and the interface file. Anyone have an idea as to why I am unable to edit the records? (I've also tried to edit the date file direct though IWP w/o the interface file, with no luck there either) Any help much appreciated… Eric
  7. Raymanj, I had the same problem a while back and posted it on this fourm... here's the link to what I ended up doing, which was use the free plugin XMplStartscript to start a refresh script after exiting the amount field in the portal. This causes the total field (sum of the amount field in the portal) to update/refresh via script. http://www.fmforums.com/threads/showflat...true#Post119358
  8. just updated to v7.03 and did some tests...pop up lists in v7.03 are still slow!!! Say it ain't so.
  9. Rick, I have a Mac at Home and a PC at work, of which I develop for the same file in both. I use an exteral USB 100mb zip drive, and just bring the drive to work or home with me. The zip is PC formatted, but it shows up no problem when I plug it into my Mac. Like others have said, make sure to check the work often on the platform you will be using in the end. I am only using one plugin that is multiplatform, and will be going online with PC's (applescript not an issue), so the main thing for me is to keep the fonts and layout appearing correctly. To do this, I create the layouts or do the final editing in the platform I will using to put the DB online (PC for mine). Good Luck, Eric
  10. Dominik, I have not tried this yet, but if you use external authentication (if you have that option) for both the data and the interface file, I am assuming that when the user changes his or her windows log in password, the password will change in both the data and interface file, as they are both externally authenticated.
  11. Comp G. I am also using the separation model, but have not put the database online yet. One thing I am curious about, is where do you keep your interface file? (On the server, or one at each work station) I have a little 2 computer network that I've tested, keeping the interface file on the client and the speed seemed much better than accessing both through the network. I think the speed diference has to do with the graphics and layouts being stored locally. This was strictly using FM 7 and opening one file as a host, not using FM7 Server. That could make a difference for speed as well.
  12. SxeThugRWC, I have had that same issue. There is a program called Click Yes that basically does just that. For those 138 times of clicking yes to send mail, it does it for you automatically. The only drawback is no matter what is trying to be sent, (if you get a virus) that tries to send itself without your permission, it is clicking yes for that as well. Anyway, here is the link. It is free to download. http://www.contextmagic.com/downloads.htm
  13. Has anyone tried using one file for all the data, then several files for interface? I started from scratch on a new system for my company and have been separating data from the interface. In progressing, I am finding there are not that many scripts in the data file, and the relationships in the data file are not that bad either (mostly for lookups, and sometimes for passing data for calcs). As for my interface file, it is "relationship graph gone wild!". Same as for the scripts. Although, you can label and catagorize scripts which helps a bit. Fenton's idea of a subfolder for scripts would be awsome. Anyway, I was thinking of using one data file (about 60 tables) and about 6 or 7 interface files. This would keep the graphs and scripts under control while keeping the data all together. For the manys files, many passwords problem, I was thinking of using external authentication, so all passwords will change and update externally. Haven't implemented that yet, but I probably will. That way, I don't have to go through password hell when trying to change or add passwords/accounts in each file, as was the case in previous versions of Filemaker.
  14. Check out article # 109264 on the support section of Filemaker's website. In that (short) artilce, they say there is a problem of a delay after the selection from a pop up list on Win XP. But I have slow lists on XP and 2000, before and after the selection. Hopefully a fix will come in v3, becasue it is annoying.
  15. Well, I kind of have a workaround... I'm using the XMplStartscript (the free plugin) and I put that in the Autoenter of the Amount field. Then all the scrip does is go to the SumCalc field, causing it to refesh. Seems to work so far. Come to think of it that technique may come in handy for other future problems. Thanks again for the responses. Eric
  16. I updated the file to closer represent how I have it set up in the file I'm having trouble with. The Amount field is set to autoenter however much is left to post that being the SumCalc. If the SumCalc which is unstored does not refresh in time, the autoenter is incorrect. After the amout auto enters, try changing it to a smaller amount as if posting only some but not all of the total amount. Then tab through to see if if refreshes correctly and autoenters the correct amount. BTW thank for bearing with me here. Eric Archive.zip
  17. Thank you for the reply Ralph. Unfortunatley, I am trying not to use a scrip. I only would like to show the amount left to post in real time. Good idea with the preview back to browse trick, I have used that one and do like it. Although, in this instance I would like the calc to refresh without having to trigger anything. Sometimes it does work, but not always. Attached is an example of the Interface file not as dynamic as the data file using the exact same data...Change the data in both files and you should see for yourself. It's very frustrating! TestFile.zip
  18. I am using an unstored calculation to show how much of a check needs to be posted. The calculation is as follows: Amount - Sum ( CashReciepts::AmountCredit ) where the amount is in the parent file subtracting the sum of the credits in the related file. Works like a charm performed in the same file where the data is kept. On the contrary, through a file reference, sometimes the calc refreshes and sometimes it just doesn't feel like it (Until the calc field is entered) . I have the layout set to save changes automatically. I don't know if it's a bug or what, but it seems there are some small differences how files act through references and when data and interface are inclusive. (This isn't the first problem I've had to deal with) or am I just missing something?
  19. I am also concerned about windows being left open. I'm not extremely proficient at looping, so instead I used the halt scrip to close the window after pausing for 4 seconds. (So if you interact with the new window, you have 4 seconds before the window closes or if you make a selection it closes as well) See the attached file. DateSelect.zip
  20. Thanks for the replys, both did help. I resized the fields 2 pixels larger than the button both vertically and horizontally and made sure to rasterize the text, expirimenting with different blending settings before saving it and importing. The results are better for sure, but the text still isn't quite what I would like. I will attach a file showing what I am speaking of. Buttons.fp7.zip
  21. I am curious as to the best method of inserting buttons into containers. I'm not getting good results when there is text included in the button. Looks very pixelated when in the container, but if inserted directly on to the layout (not in any container field) it looks fine. Few details before the questions... Buttons are from Photoshop saved as PNG Files 96dpi on a mac , however, they will be used only on a Windows network when I'm done with the solution. I've tried a few different graphic settings "reduce and enlarge" seemed to work best, but still not to my satisfaction. So what is the optimal resolution to use for good results w/o slowing things down? And...What is the best way to add text to a button that is in a container? Make the button separate from the text (the button from Photoshop, and the text from FM Layout mode) or make it all in P.S... or something completely different? Any help, very appreciated
  22. You Rock Ray! I used the technique you explained and it works very nice so far. (have yet to test every angle). I don't know if there is a better way to set up the relationship, but I used the cartesian "x" to relate the Get (ActiveFieldName) calculation in the interface file to the primary ID in the table where the data file is. (I guess it doesn't matter what fields you use for relationships with the "x") Thanks again, Melbourne huh... lucky you, can check out some Aussie Rules at the MCG.
  23. Hello all, I am trying to create a log of changes to a field using John Osbournes technique from his sample file "Change Log". It tracks who, when, what field, and what data was changed into a log field. I have no problems creating the log when the data entry is done in the same file (not through a file reference) as the data. But when I do data entry to the exact same Table Occurrence through a file reference, the changes are not logged. Anyone have an inkling why? or what to do about it? Below I have attached the code, which is set to auto enter with the do not replace existing value unchecked, for the log field (it is in the same table as the field modification it is logging) Case(PatternCount("Textfield"; Get(ActiveFieldName));"- " & GetAsText(Get(CurrentDate)) & " | " & GetAsText(Get(CurrentTime)) & " | " & Get(AccountName) & " | " & Get(ActiveFieldName) & " = " & Case(Get(ActiveFieldName) = "Textfield"; Textfield; ) & Case(not IsEmpty(Log); "
  24. Anyone know if it is possible to make a portal appear and disappear based on a relationship? What I would like to do is have 2 portals one on top of the other, but only one active and visible at a time, based on a global field that has the 2 related choices. I know one workaround would be to have virtually identical layouts, one with each portal, and when the user toggles, they don't even know they have changed layouts, but I would rather not do that. Any thoughts / ideas are greatly appreciated...
  25. ok... attachement is here cars.fp7.zip
