  1. Yes, Steven, I am clear on its function. I am just curious as to how it performs its function. Is there a separate internal flag in the file like the one that would make it not show on the Open Remote dialog? Is there some blacklist that the script that generates the WebDirect page pays attention to to know not to list the file? etc. Any idea on any possible distinction between using "Configure for Webdirect" and just manually setting the extended privilege, other than the ability to not show the fie on the WebDirect home page?
  2. It seems like the File -> Sharing -> Configure for WebDirect dialog basically just sets the fmwebdirect extended privilege for the selected privilege sets (or all of them if "all users" is selected), so the two methods could be used interchangeably. Is this accurate, or is there something I'm missing? If that's the case, the "Don't display on FileMaker WebDirect homepage" checkbox is the only mystery to me in that dialog box; how exactly does that function? Is there any other way to configure that, or is that the one place where that can be shut off?
  3. Rats. That's the best lead I'd had to date regarding the problem. Thank you for your reply. I haven't found a thread mentioning this problem yet that discusses a solution to this (as we're on a PPC Mac, so Java 6 isn't an issue). Are there any leads, or is this at least a known issue?
  4. That's interesting. The VLA images being distributed by FileMaker right now are at .326 already -- I have a client that just placed that order and installed. Is what you're saying that x326 is not to be used except in the specific circumstance listed above? We are having similar problems as those who can't get connect to the database, both through the admin console and through fmsadmin -- it gives permissions errors. Clean Leopard install, then installation of the FMS image downloaded first thing. Should we be trying to get an install of v3.325 from FMI, see if that fixes things?
  5. Any progress on the problem since the release of 8.0v3?
  6. The WPE username and password is not the same as the ID and passphrase you set in FM Server. There are three user/pass sets on the way through configuring your FMSA web console: 1) The Web Admin Console user name and password 2) The Web Publishing Engine user name and password 3) The FM Server ID and passphrase #3 is the one that you entered in FM Server. #1 and #2 are set by you (or someone) the first time you log in to the Web Admin console; it asks you to type in an username/password/verify the password for the console, then sets that and asks what server the WPE is on, then asks for the user/pass/verify for the WPE and sets that once you enter it, and *then* you can worry about your FM server ID and passphres. So it sounds like your WPE user/pass was already set earlier.
  7. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE FileMaker Wiki Now Available Denton, TX -- February 10, 2006 -- FileMaker developers of all ranges of experience can now collaborate on a collection of tips, tricks, and best practices open to the public. FMWiki.org is a new web site maintained by New Century Data, a database and application development company in Denton, TX, to compile and organize the wisdom of the FileMaker development community. Prior to this, seasoned developers could give sage advice on a number of newsgroups and mailing lists, which would at best be lost over time in a sea of newsgroup history, and at worst disappear in an unarchived mailing list. FMWiki.org provides a place to store those golden nuggets of knowledge in an organized manner which allows for easy editing as new information comes along, while retaining any older versions of the information as well. The web site is available at http://www.fmwiki.org; the site administrator can be contacted at george@newcenturydata.com.
