Remotely run Filemaker on OSX

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I have shell (ssh) access to a MacOSX server 10.1 machine. This machine is 800 km from where I live so I wouldn't get any physical access.

I need to install Filemaker on it + open and close databases as required. I don't have any screen control app either. I do have another macosx server machine to administer it though. Can anyone advise if it is possible to do so with using shell or remote admin only?

If it is impossible - please let me know also so I can give up looking for answers....

I tried www.macosx.com but there was no replies frown.gif

I've been able to use ssh and Applescript to achieve this.

Good Luck.

What about Timbuktu ?

  • Author

Could you give me some pointers?

I am a regular unix user so don't have any problem with shell - but know almost next to nothing about applescript ..

but hope I can learn it very quickly.

I posted this in the Applescript forum about a year ago:

I am now able to login to the FMP host with ssh and issue Applescript commands; e.g.

code:

------------------------------------------------------------------------

/usr/bin/osascript -e 'tell application "Filemaker Pro" to activate'

/usr/bin/osascript -e 'tell application "Filemaker Pro" to open file "Data:db:openfirst.fp5"'

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hope this helps.

I use Timbuktu. Have my database files running on an osx machine at the office. I access the machine on a regular basis from home. Timbuktu is nice because it is just like sitting at the machine. I can make quick changes, define fields, layout tweeks, ect. I actually use Timbuktu on 3 machines, one being osx, one being os9, and one eing a windows 2000 server. They all play nice.
