January 13, 200323 yr I copied some buttons from some templates in the sample section, but now that I've spent hours working with Photoshop to personalize them (changing colors from blue to orange, which is my company graphic chart), the interface created is really a disaster when I navigate using the buttons as tabs. Even with the freeze option in the scripts. I use FM 5.5 and an Imac G3 Is that that the images created in Photoshop use too much memory. Is there another problem. What kind of application do some of you use to create their own buttons. Thanks
January 13, 200323 yr I found that most images are slow to draw in FM. Unpleasant as it might sound, using the native FM graphics tools offers the best performance. If you are noticing the slowdown now and are only viewing them on your local computer, wait till you see how poorly they draw when used in a multiuser (network) solution. And don't even think about accessing it remotely...
January 14, 200323 yr hi, why don't you send me that button in a dummy file. then i will see if i can fix it. last time i had similar problem and i could fix it. but then again your could be different. so if you want me to try ... regards, kyle
January 14, 200323 yr Author The problem seems to be from the merge fields from the global file in the tab itself. When I replace these fields with classic text, all seems to be ok. I'm not so pleased with that as this mean I will have to do some more work. I thought working with merge fields was a better solution, as many of you quoted it ...
January 14, 200323 yr Author I just do not understand anymore. I thought using a freeze window step in script was the best solution, whereas in my file it seems it is worse using it. Check it out with the attachment please.
January 14, 200323 yr hi, freeze window script step is good for when you navigate through many layouts or files, it will speed things up. but don't use it where your script doesn't leave the layout where you are excuting. HTH... kyle
January 14, 200323 yr Author Check this out. New attachment with 2 files and 4 layouts. Still do not understand. Have made scripts with freeze, some without and some simpliest scripts Edited: I cannot upload the files. They aren't more than 450 k... Can mail to someone ?!
January 14, 200323 yr Hi Ugo, Man oh man, you sure do have a lot of stuff on that layout that has to redraw. If you remove all of the steps in your scripts except the go to next (previous) record, it will stop all of the redraw for those two scripts. HTH Lee
January 15, 200323 yr Hi: It appears that your last attachment attempt didnt work. Anyways, I looked at your previous attachment, and there is some redraw. As pointed out by Lee Smith, taking steps out will eliminate the redraw. But not just all steps. The Freeze Window step seems to be creating the redraw. In the file I looked at, the script to go to previous doesnt redraw, but the go to next does. You shouldnt need the freeze window step in these instances.
January 15, 200323 yr Author OK, as I couldn't attach 2 files, I make it in one. I rebuilt my button wiss less resolution, and rebuilt the scripts with either a freeze option or not. It's not getting worse, but it is still...awful ? Thanks anyway for your help on this one.
January 15, 200323 yr I am using a G4 466. I do not quite understand what you mean by your tabs being slow. I did however take the liberty of re doing a few of your scripts, please let me know if it helps. Dean
January 15, 200323 yr There doesn't appear to be anything inside this download from [color:"red"] Dean ? Could you, [color:"red"] Dean, send it to me direct so I can see too. TIA Lee
January 15, 200323 yr Author Do you mean that the interface isn't slow with G4. As I planned to by a G4 soon, this would be a godd news.
January 15, 200323 yr Ugo, Yes I used your Tabs and all seemed to work OK, the only thing I saw was a lot of Maximize Window steps. I usally use Maximize Window in a start up script or if I am changing from a Maximzed Window to a smaller Window. If you Maximize in every script you can get jumpy Windows etc. I hope this helps. Dean PS I use Appleworks for most all my graphics.
January 16, 200323 yr My experience is that with photoshop images coming into filemaker, is that rectangular selections are MUCH MUCH faster than non rectangular selections. Also avoid transparencies and it is often best to convert an image to indexed color before copying it. Scott
January 16, 200323 yr Author Thanks to everybody. I've just ordered Appleworks. Seems that lot of you get satisfaction with this. Will follow your advice for scripts and methods for image "creation".
