Newbies bsdstyle Posted January 28, 2003 Newbies Posted January 28, 2003 I am a new/novice user and I need to create a button that links to a pdf file I have somewhere else. So when one clicks on the button it would open adobe acrobat reader and the file specified. I have read most of the user manual and nothing intuitively describes or even mentions that this type of process is available unless I types the whole filepath and paste it into the appropriate text box. PLEASE HELP! I need to figure this out for my new job!
kenneth2k1 Posted January 29, 2003 Posted January 29, 2003 Hi: PDFs can be stored in container fields. When you double-click on the container, the .pdf will open with reader. Ken
jfmcel Posted January 29, 2003 Posted January 29, 2003 -- When you double-click on the container, the .pdf will open with reader. Not on Macs... Is this a windows feature? [i did discover that if you import the pdf as a QuickTime file you can page through every page of the PDF.]
Ugo DI LUCA Posted January 30, 2003 Posted January 30, 2003 Works on my FM 5.5 with PrintToPDF plug-in.
jeffer Posted January 30, 2003 Posted January 30, 2003 Just a tought...the Troi file Plugin. I know it creates and edit files. Maybe there is an option for opening files? A few years ago i helped a friend of mine to automaticly open PDF files from filemaker Pro. At that time we used keyquencer (or something like that) and it worked fine...just don know how it works anymore. I believe that that program is only running on classic MacOS. Maybe this is helping you! jeff
kiwiora Posted February 5, 2003 Posted February 5, 2003 can you just type the file name into a field "filename" then concatenate it into a calculation for the path such as... """" & "G:DocumentsCaptured" & FileName & """" then create a button/script which will open the specified pdf through the concatenated field using the send message function - field value??
