Hi all,

This really is a newbie question. We have a filemaker database running At a certain point we decided to put the database on the web , so we got Filemaker unlimited.

No I was able to get the database online using instant publishing, but then the buttons in the database do not work.

So i realized we need custom web publishing, presuming that the buttons do work this way. Now I have no knowledge of HTML, and even lesser knowledge of CDML.

So the manual is a bit complex for me.

Can anyone explain me what minimum steps I have to take to get my Database on the net, with my buttons working.......

Thx in advance

It is not about buttons at all.

You must convert you database functionality and logic to web.

That is achieved with HTML and CDML.

You must learn the HTML or use something like GoLive or Dreamwaver.

Then you must learn the CDML -- get the CDML reference database. If possible get also Claris Home Page.

Because scripts are running badly from web, you should get the database populated with data, searched and displayed on web without FM scripts.

Think about FM database just as storage for your data and not as engine which is processing your data.

Ideally you should get some lessons.

P.S. I'll be back from US in Europe in May.

Hi, thierry! I don't log on regularly so I hope someone else can help you but you may get more solutions posted if you tell folks what the db is and what the buttons do. Simple db systems require very little CDML code (3-4 lines on the 1st page, a few words on others) and you should be able to struggle through it without much trouble. You can make very simple text-based web pages from M. Word although I suggest Dreamweaver or GoLive as Anatoli proposes if you can. If your db is complex and requires logins, security, relationships, and IF conditions, then the project is a little more ambitious. If you want to make it "pretty" for your web users, you'll also have to learn some graphic design and layout principles. I beleive there are starter kits available for download in FMFORUMS, too, but I'd start w/what comes with FileMaker. Good luck!
