SteveS
I hope someone can help me. I developed a Filemaker 4.0 Runtime database and installed it on a LAN network. The network stations have various types of printers attached. This causes printing problems with milti-page documents. The page breaks do not work properly with some of the workstations. Is there a script that I could use to address this problem?

Kurt Knippel
Basically you will need to setup various "Page Setup" scripts which are configured for each type of printer. Then you can conditionally call the proper script depending upon which printer it will print to.
SteveS
Thank you for your response Kurt, I do not know why this task is difficult with FileMaker, when it is automatic in Microsoft Office.
Kurt Knippel
That is because Office is totally in control of the placement of objects on the page, whereas in Filemaker that control is left up to the developer. Filemaker only controls the display of records on the page.
bloodyhell
how can it be possible?? I had a similar problem, and it started to be just when we upgraded to win2000! there must be another way I think to solve this problem, duplicating all the scripts is a long work! DykstrL
You don't need different layouts for the different printers. Just set the print margins for any layouts that will be printed to .5 inches - I guarantee that the layouts will print on ANY printer except for maybe dot-matrix. You will lose some real estate on your layouts, but it sure beats duplicating the same layout many times with just very slight changes.
bloodyhell
thank you very much dykstrl for your answer! I thought something like that, but I don't understand why filemaker's programmers didn't solve this problem...!? Using windows98SE scritps were working in the same way for both printers! So if I set up all the layouts that will be printed between the page margins do you think everything will be fine?? It's gonna be a long work, but it still is a solution... thanx
