FMPRO Unlimited CRASHES everytime...

Featured Replies

I'm trying for the first time ever to publish a very very simple database online for our camp coordinators to enter in product information on the road.

I go into FMPRO UNLIMITED and share the database and set up all of the important info to get it shared.

I go into my web browser and type in the 192.168.x.x and the port number that I told it to use "84".

I get the screen and it shows the database that I'm sharing...I click on it...it waits for a few seconds...and then FMPRO UNLIMITED crashes and quits unexpextedly. EVERYTIME. I've installed the webconnector files...but I'm not really sure what those did or how to use them in this instance.

I'm running OS X.2.6 with Unlimited 6. The database is a very simple table with only text and a few buttons but nothing special. Is there any reason why Unlimited crashes all the time when trying to log into the database. Do I have to save the database in a special "web" format to get it to work?

AHH HELP??

Thanks,

Jami

change the port number to something likee 8080. (84 may be registered to another application, just in case...)

Try accessing FM from a different machine.

Send an angry email to Apple/FileMaker.

The OS X versions of FileMaker 6 are flawed - missing graphics filters, faulty international number/date format, no toolbars, double keyboard shortcuts or shortcuts taken from OS, WebCompanion crashing ... you name it. OK, they will fix it eventually, but when?

I'll give 8080 a shot and see what that does...I thought 84 was a pretty unused random port...but maybe not...I'll give 8080 a shot...and thanks for letting me know that the vers. 6 is flawed to the point that I'm not the only one that this is screwing up on.

It's probably not the port, but 84 is a reserved one and should not be used over the internet ...

84/tcp Common Trace Facility

84/udp Common Trace Facility

try connecting from another machine first.

while FM 6 is somewhat flawed, it still should not crash every time. Random crashes are more common.

Thanks for your help!

Make sure you have the latest patch for v6 as well as the latest Web Companion for that version. I experienced the same behavior in v5.5 when I installed it out of the box. After updating it ran just fine.
