Deb in SLO Posted July 24, 2003 Posted July 24, 2003 I am VERY new to FileMaker Pro and am far from understanding programing. In other words I need very simple non-programming language for answers. Here's my questions: I have downloaded Solution Framework and have been customizing it to fit my needs. When I work with several test invoices my subtotal reflects ALL my invoices and not just the one I am looking at (same with Sales Tax). It is taking the subtotal from the line item list. When I print out or preview the invoice from the report module the subtotal is correct. I am baffled and can't figure this out. Can't my subtotal (and Sales Tex) reflect just the invoice I am working on?
ernst Posted July 25, 2003 Posted July 25, 2003 Hi Deb, I had a look at the framework an did not see the problem you described. In the invoices listview you can indeed see the totalof all currently found invoices, but in detailview the invoice total is just from the selected invoice. Is it possible that your customisation has caused your problem? Maybe try to open the original version of the framework and see if that behaves alright... Regards, Ernst.
Deb in SLO Posted July 25, 2003 Author Posted July 25, 2003 Thanks Ernst. Knowing that I am completely capable of screwing this thing up, I just went back and looked at the original and it does the same thing that I am having problems with. If you have more that one invoice in the data base, the subtotal and tax reflect the the line item list. The total is from the current invoice but the subtotal and tax are from the line item list. So I can have an invoice that's total is $58.50 but the subtotal says $112.00! Thanks so much for your help, Deb
kenneth2k1 Posted July 25, 2003 Posted July 25, 2003 You know what? I think you're right. It shows the sub total from a previous invoice I think. This may be a bug that might need to be reported to FM. I'm not about to try and fix it. The design kinda baffles me. It seems that the problem will fix itself if you click the More Info button on the invoice layout. Ken
Ugo DI LUCA Posted July 25, 2003 Posted July 25, 2003 Yes, BIG Bug here They are referencing the Statistical field in the relationship while it should have been a simple Sum(Line ItemInvoiceN
Lee Smith Posted July 25, 2003 Posted July 25, 2003 Hi All, It's not a BUG, its bad developing of those files by someone at FMI. I know someone else, who has also reported a problem using these files. Also, I have a client who started using Framework as his company's solution. When he asked me to help him add a few bells and whistles to the thing, one of the first things I did, was to run a report, using MetaDataMagic, on the his files. The report showed several of the files had had a history of "Not being Closed Properly". When I asked him come he was using these files instead of clean ones, he responded that he couldn't remember them ever crashing. So, I downloaded fresh copies of the files from FMI, and ran the same test. I was astounded to find that these files showed they had crashed 9, 10, and 12 times for the three files I checked. My recommendation would be to recreate the files. Lee
Deb in SLO Posted July 25, 2003 Author Posted July 25, 2003 Hi Lee, I am not thrilled with your recommendation, although it may be necessary. What do you mean exactly by recreating the files? Are you saying I would need to start from scratch?
kenneth2k1 Posted July 26, 2003 Posted July 26, 2003 The FSF was developed on a design by Matt Petrowski. When I said "bug", I meant with the Framework solution, not FileMaker.
Lee Smith Posted July 26, 2003 Posted July 26, 2003 Unfortunately, I think you need to strongly consider it. These files may live without problems for ever. But, I have seen files become corrupt, for what appeared to be no apparent reason. BTW, my client was not using the invoice file, so I didn't run any test on it. You might want to do that before going too far. HTH Lee
Lee Smith Posted July 26, 2003 Posted July 26, 2003 Hi Kenneth, I knew the developer of the files was someone like Matt, I haven't looked at them for awhile, so I forgot who it was though. It still doesn't mean that the files are trustworthy. BTW, something could have happened to the files under FileMaker's watch.
Deb in SLO Posted July 26, 2003 Author Posted July 26, 2003 You guys have been extremely helpful but I am still struggling. I am a complete novice at all of this. I am just looking for an easy invoicing solution that can be attached to a customer data base and a product data base (that I can easily customize with my company information). Can anybody recommend a better, easier solution for someone with NO experience in programming. I also can't spend any more $ on this. Am I in the wrong arena?
Helpful Harry Posted July 26, 2003 Posted July 26, 2003 Gee, how did that solution slip by Quality Control. The whole invoice Subtotal box is incorrect (Subtotal, Tax, and Handling). It's adding together amounts for ALL found records in the LineItems.fp5 file, rather than just those for the current Invoice # (when you do a More Info the file LineItems.fp5 file does a find for the correct Invoice # entries). Attached is a fresh version of the Invoices.FP5 file in which I've fixed for THESE problems (who knows what else may be wrong), but you'll need to keep an eye on the system just in case it's using those incorrect total elsewhere. [color:"red"]BUT before you download / unZip it you'll need to rename the old version to something else (eg. Invoice-OLD.FP5) so it can be retrieved if anything goes wrong or if you need any of the data in it. Let me know if you need the old data and want any help with importing it into the new file (if you do that yourself you'll need to remember to update the auto-enter Invoice #). Invoices.zip
Deb in SLO Posted July 27, 2003 Author Posted July 27, 2003 THANK YOU!! That did it!! You have no idea how you made my day! Thank you so much for all your help and taking the time. Deb
Helpful Harry Posted July 27, 2003 Posted July 27, 2003 No worries ... the $2,000 bill is in the post.
MerlinWannaBe Posted October 21, 2003 Posted October 21, 2003 Lee Smith advised me of your gift...THanks!! I was having problems as well. Are there other issues with it that you know of?? THanks Again!
