Christopher Feyrer Posted July 31, 2003 Posted July 31, 2003 What's the easiest way of "unlocking" a locked button or series of objects so I can see the button properties? Thanks. Chris
-Queue- Posted July 31, 2003 Posted July 31, 2003 Select all the objects to unlock. Press Ctrl-Shift-H (apple-Shift-H on Mac, I believe). You can see the properties if they are locked; you just can't change them.
LaRetta Posted July 31, 2003 Posted July 31, 2003 Queue wrote ... You can see the properties if they are locked; you just can't change them. I think what Queue means is that (possibly) you can't change them from there because you certainly can change them if you have design privileges (and you probably do or you wouldn't be in Layout mode). So, select the object to unlock (or Edit > Select All), then Arrange > Unlock. The selected object(s) will unlock for you or have I been hittin' the whacky juice a bit too much? Just a clarification. -Queue- Posted July 31, 2003 Posted July 31, 2003 No, I mean you can't change them if they are locked, regardless of your privilege. You'll get the error message informing you so, if you try. But you can see the Text, Number, Field, etc. properties when they're locked, which is about what Christopher asked. So I gave him the solution for a different problem, then clarified that he didn't need the solution just to view the properties.
kenneth2k1 Posted July 31, 2003 Posted July 31, 2003 Hi LaRetta: Yeah, youre right. Don't worry, you haven't been hitting that good sheezie! But I think Queue means that if an object (button) is locked, you can view its properties, you just can't change them. Ken
LaRetta Posted July 31, 2003 Posted July 31, 2003 Hi, Makes perfect sense ... I assumed he wanted to view the properties so he could change them, and you said he couldn't change them and then I confused him by saying he can unlock and then change them! Are we thorough or what? Cheers! LaRetta
-Queue- Posted July 31, 2003 Posted July 31, 2003 That's why I used the semicolon in my original statement. The two comments were related. Perhaps it would have been more clear to state: If the objects are locked, then you can view their properties but cannot change them. But I opted for the ';' as the lazy way out.
LaRetta Posted July 31, 2003 Posted July 31, 2003 Well Grasshopper ... wise man once say ... practice typing speed ... get earliest posts ... no more second place. Unfortunately, I type faster than I think. It can be quite disasterous. I think 'slower and more thorough') is definitely better. LaRetta
Christopher Feyrer Posted August 1, 2003 Author Posted August 1, 2003 Control/Shift/H deleted the button. I undeleted it. Still stuck. It's basically a script that runs something when switching between two radio buttons, and I need to find out the scripts that are run by these buttons. Chris
-Queue- Posted August 1, 2003 Posted August 1, 2003 Have you tried just double-clicking on the buttons? That should show their script properties. Are you on Mac or Windows? Ctrl-Shift-H or Cmd-Shift-H is the correct keystroke combination. But if it doesn't work, select the object and go to menu option Format->Button.
Christopher Feyrer Posted August 1, 2003 Author Posted August 1, 2003 When I attempt to follow your instructions I get the following error msg: The selected group of objects includes at least one previously defined button and therefore cannot be defined as a new button.
LaRetta Posted August 1, 2003 Posted August 1, 2003 Hi Christopher, You will need to ungroup the buttons (select it, Arrange > Ungroup). Once ungrouped, the top item probably won't have a script but once it's moved aside a bit, the next item should have a script attached. LaRetta
ernst Posted August 1, 2003 Posted August 1, 2003 Hi all, hi Chris, I read this thread twice and think I must be missing something comletely, but don't you mean the 'Unlock' command in the 'Arrange' menu? Followed by the 'Ungroup' command (same menu) Then you should be able to doubleclick the individual objects to see what script they are pointing to... But maybe it's all a bit to deep for me... Ernst.
-Queue- Posted August 1, 2003 Posted August 1, 2003 You need to ungroup (Ctrl-Shift-G/Cmd-Shift-G) the objects. You have at least one button that was grouped with other objects afterward, which is why you're receiving the error.
Anatoli Posted August 1, 2003 Posted August 1, 2003 It have to be Unlocked and Ungrouped and then you can manipulate everything...
LaRetta Posted August 1, 2003 Posted August 1, 2003 Yay Anatoli for summing it up for us! We were playing, "Is it bigger than a breadbox?" And we were actually getting there but, as always, Anatoli's advice is 'to the point.' Anatoli, I miss your poo-bah name. It really fits you. Cheers! LaRetta
