August 24, 200322 yr I have a four page layout with container fields (containing pdf forms) set to slide up. page 1 has a text field on top of the container, also set to slide up. when i go to preview mode, even if there is no content on the text field and container field in page 1, the other container fields are blocked by the place where the text field is, and leaves a gap. When I remove the text field everything works fine, but the text field has to be there! Tried all sliding options but no go! Tried sending the field and container backwards and to front also, no effect. Left- and Top-Aligned also everything. Searched for this all over fmforums and couldn't find a solution. Hope someone can help.
August 24, 200322 yr I guess that overlapping objects are not sliding well. Also sometimes setting fields one by one doesn't slide. If you select them all and the set the slide it works.
August 25, 200322 yr Newbies I'm not sure I completely understand you question. Therefore my answer could be way off! but I'll risk it. When you say you have a text field on top of the container field, I assume you mean above it, as some sort of heading. Try making the heading a calculation text field based on some valid criteria. eg. If (IsEmpty(the container),"","Text Heading:") set it to slide, and if the heading is not valid, it will not show, therefore container should slide up.
August 25, 200322 yr One thing to check is the Alignment options for the text field. They should be set to 'Left' and 'Top'.
August 26, 200322 yr Author Thanks for the replies! Sorry if my question was a little confusing. I meant that I had a text field IN FRONT of a container field, and even if the text field and the container field was set to slide up when empty, the text field was blocking the other containers below from sliding up. I did a search in the filemaker site, and came up with KB 105218: "Sliding objects don
August 26, 200322 yr What exactly is the point of having a text field overlaying the container field anyway?
August 26, 200322 yr Author Actually, the container field contains an application form in pdf format, and the fields on top of it are the contents. The user wants an option to print or not to print that page, and that page is 1 of 4 pages to be faxed or emailed. So printing separate layouts is out of the question. Hope FileMaker 7 solves this problem.
