Search Database on CDROM

Hi Everyone,

I have a client that is the author of a regional media guide. He has a database in Filemaker with all the content for the book. He wants a CDROM to accompany the book. At its most simple, users must be able to search for media contacts from an interface on the CDROM.

I'm not familiar with Filemaker so I

javascript + HTML, Flash or even javascript + PDF is a good option here, based on Text exported from FileMaker as tab text. Or simply use a FileMaker runtime app.

I think that an FM "Runtime" would be needed to distribute a database on a CD. Hence, I believe that Flash may not be able to access the "Runtime"!

So, if you are keen to use Flash rather than an FM interface, you would need the data in something that FM can export. An XML file should work ok with Flash.

Good Luck.

I don't think you would need a FM runtime on the CD. Since the CD will be static anyway, and Flash can read XML, why not just output the FileMaker data to a XML file and have the Flash interface access the XML file. It should be a less complicated setup.

The plus would be that you would be offering the user the raw XML data to be used in other ways if they want. That's seems to be where everything else is going.

...just my 2 cents
