Sliding Objects HELP

Featured Replies

OK - I am dumb. I can't seem to create an envelope where I have sliding fields.

My fields are text, (NameFirst, NameLast) and I have selected them and gone to Sliding Objects slide left. Nothing - nada. Not in printing; not in Preview not in my life.

WHAT am I doing wrong? It seems that this is such a simple function that there is little discussion on it. So it must be me.

My fields are within the Body, I have no hidden characters. I have tried different layouts - still no go. Why?

I am using FMP 7 Dev under OS X 10.3.7.

HELP

Thanks all

Burt

Can you Stuff and attach a copy or clone of your problem file and tell us on which layout the problem appears?

I have sent a clone which will open to trial layout in which the fields move upwards but not left -

Thanks

Burt

Merge fields will work much better for this. Copy the text below and paste it onto your layout, setting the dimensions of the text block as desired.

<<NameFirst>> <<NameLast>>

<<Company>>

<<Address1>>

<<Address2>>

<<City>>, <<State>> <<ZipCode>>

If you want to remove the spaces for when there is no data in the appropriate fields, create a calculation of

NameFirst & Case( not IsEmpty(NameLast), " " & NameLast )

and put its name (<<like this>>) in the first line, in place of <<NameFirst>> <<NameLast>>. Create a similar calculation for your last line, if you want to remove the comma and space when City or State is empty or the two spaces when ZipCode is empty.

Thanks Queue,

I decided to take your advice one step further and made one field where all data and conditions were defined by a calculation so that, like you suggested, I would not have to deal with sliding objects.

Thanks a lot

  • 4 months later...

i am having no luck w/sliding objects either. i'm using v4.0 (unfortunately).

i'm trying to get the address, city, state and zip fields to slide up to meet the first and last name fields whenever the "Title" and "Org." fields are empty. i'm doing what it says in the help menu but nothing is working. is there a known problem using sliding objects in V.4? or would someone be willing to talk me through this step by step so i can be SURE that i'm not missing anything?

thanks!

Hi Hillary, and Welcome to the Forum.

Are you looking at the result in Preview or Browse Mode?

You will not see the results in Browse.

If I misunderstood you, let me know.

  • 3 weeks later...

same problem here too... but with sliding portals.

Can't seem to get a portal to trim upwards when the ONE field in the portal is blank or not two lines.

I have tried everything I know: no borders on portal, used <<fieldname>> instead on normal field.. etc.

Portals do not slide. Fields will not slide in Browse Mode anyway. If this is for a report to preview/print, then create the report in your child file.
