Featured Replies

Hi everyone..

I have finish my file and i did not know from when and nowhere comes this dotted line in between it. it is kind of similar to the body/footer dotted line but is not. I cannot click on it and no info shown there when I roll over it. Problem is when I go to preview, it never shows me all the stuffs that is under that line. and when I print it just like what the preview shown, my stuffs not there...

Help!!!!

Thanks a lot..

How long is that layout?

If you make a new blank layout and copy/paste everything from the original layout over, do you get the same dotted line?

It might also be possible that you moved the layout page margins?

Does the dotted line show up in layout mode only? From your description it sounds like the end of printed page marker (is there a similar vertical dotted line on the right?) As LaRetta says, you should check your printed page setup

Hi there is no problem with the print setup. So i try to copy paste to a new database, theres this line still but luckily it is at the lower end so i can squeeze my stuffs in and i need to redefine all my fields in database again. anyway can I copy paste the define table fields too?

but more importantly anyway can i actually remove this line??

thanks a lot..

We are still trying to figure what line you are talking about. Can you post a screen shot at least?

still but luckily it is at the lower end so i can squeeze my stuffs in

Huh? I have no idea what you're even looking at. Post the file if possible. We'll help you figure it out but we need some sort of visual here (file or GIF) to know what you're talking about, okay? :wink2:

A very puzzling problem. It is definitely a page bottom marker but it seems to be in the wrong place. So I tried to reproduce the layout and then discovered the problem. It is the size of the footer! Reduce the size of the footer to the minimum that still includes your button and you will see the horizontal line disappear. In fact you probably don't need a footer at all since all it does is contain the non-printing Submit button.

It might also be possible that you moved the layout page margins

Yep. That's what you did. If you go to Layout > Layout Setup > Printing and increase the bottom margin it fixes itself. Pay attention to that ruler on the left. That's your page height. You had your page body height at 2".

Footer isn't necessary if the SUBMIT button property is changed to Format > Sliding/Printing 'Do not print selected objects' so it can be placed in the body anywhere.

Hi Laretta and SlimJim, thanks i have fixed the problem by either putting the bottom inch to '0' and drag the bottom footer to make that margin disappear or by deleting the footer.

But i have some questions. Under Layout > Layout Setup > Printing, 'Use fixed page margins' what does it means. Checking and unchecking it whats the different?

I tried putting different inches for the bottom margin, some of it will come out many margins in between the body, whats that??

And same file in different com, 1 i can delete the footer while the other not. And what are header and footer actual usefulness?

Thanks a lot..

Fixed page margins allows you to set "hard" margins. Once set you will see those set margins in your layout and browse modes.

A good set of margins will help keep your fields "centered", a good idea if you intend to use this file on different printers (some do not print up to 1/2 inch from the edge, cutting off vital info.)

NOTE: In "view as form" you have one bottom margin. If you see "many margins" we are talking about something other than bottom margins.

Headers and Footers can be looked at as "enhanced" margins. (If you are familiar with MS Word headers and footers try using FM headers and footers the same way) They give you a place to put dates, graphic, buttons, letterhead and logos, etc. that are not record specific.

If you don't need them, don't use them.
