January 5, 200620 yr Hello everyone, I currently have 3 separate FM files that are all relational. each file has 1-3 tables. I'd like to integrate them all into one file so that I don't have to have 3 windows open all the time. It seems that this should be possible. How do you import tables into a file in order to consolidate them all? WIll i be able to maintain all the relationships?
January 5, 200620 yr Hi Chasm. you will need to use a product like FM robot or upgrade to FM8. FM8 has the ability to copy files natively now. However those options are not in your budget, and it seems as though your solution is not that big, you might be better off creating a new database with proper tables from scratch and then importing your data. There is a lot more information on this in the migration forum.
January 5, 200620 yr You need Advance, the Developer Edition of FileMaker Pro 8. In the older versions, including v 7, you would have to create your files and then import the records. You can use a utility such as FM Robot, but then that cost money also, and you still would need the Developer Edition of v7 to do that. Lee
January 5, 200620 yr Author So developer would make the migration a lot easier, but is it even possible to transfer it manually? they are not HUGE databases. 30 MB a piece with about 40 fields, 20 fields, and 80 fields respectively.
January 5, 200620 yr Start with the one with 80 fields or the one with teh most layouts, and then create two new tables for your other files. Then you can create any layouts that those 2 other files might use. You can then import your scripts from the other files and make the proper changes to them to reflect it being in tables rather than files. Then you can export your data to a csv of something and import it into your new database when finished. Again there are a lot of post on tips etc in the other forum. It doesnt look like your job will be too difficult.
